Summer Game Fest 2025: Here’s How It All Went Down

The official Summer Game Fest showcase offered a little something for everyone this year. We had some mega gaming titles unveiled, as well as some that made us all look twice and say “wtf was that?”.

PlayStation’s recent State of Play also bought some fresh digital dishes to the table. And looking at the other showcases we’ve had so far, we’re certainly not going hungry.

That said, while I’m excited about all the games to come, this showcase season feels a bit more like bye round; big things obviously take more time to bake. Still, we’ve had an awesome year so far and there’s plenty more to come. Bring on some more indies across the weekend and something big from Xbox and I’ll consider it all a success.

As for Summer Game Fest, here’s a bit of a play by play and the things we’re most looking forward to:

Early in the show, Sonic Racing Crosswords was unveiled for a September release. It started off looking like a generic Sonic Racing game… until the likes of Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga, and Steve from Minecraft (among others) were featured.

The rivalry lives on.

SEGA’s Takashi Iizuka made an appearance on stage and had a fun little dig at Mario Kart, sharing the news of cross play across all platforms.

Troy Baker was unveiled as the voice of the main character for Mouse: P.I. For Hire. We had a Game of Thrones game unveiled and Atomic Heart 2 was unveiled.

We also had a really… strange…? puppet game, Felt That Boxing, that host Geoff Keighley was just a little too excited about.

“You guys know I love my puppets”… Sure, Geoff. Whatever you’re into.

Out of Words is another game to enter the two-player co-op scene — it’s giving off big It Takes Two vibes. The main characters have no mouths… Perhaps voice acting wasn’t in the budget? There’s a new LEGO co-op game on the way too, LEGO Voyagers.

Mafia the Old Country is also shaping up well. Deadpool VR looks… good? Neil Patrick Harris is voicing Deadpool and he sounds the part.

A few new souls games were unveiled, but they all blended into one for me by the end of the stream. And is anyone else confused about that three seconds of gameplay for that Nickelodeon game? Just me?

Oh, also, that Among Us hotel murder game — Killer Inn. That is definitely a game…

Mads Mikkelsen at the IOI Showcase. He’s loving it.

Mads Mikkelsen made an appearance for a new Hitman DLC, which become a whole other thing… Read more here.

There’s plenty of hype around Ryu Ga Gotoku’s Stranger Than Heaven (formerly Project Century), a Yakuza-styled game set in the 1940s.

Other games from the show that piqued our interest include Mina The Hollower, Seven Deadly Sins: Origin, Dying Light: The Beast (which got an August 22 release date), Mixtape, Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver and Jurassic World Evolution 3.

Look familiar? (Capcom)

But it all came down to Resident Evil: Requiem, which capped off the show — an absolute bait and switch by Capcom’s Koshi Nakanishi. Midway through the showcase, Nakanishi appeared to say the team are still working hard on the next installment in the Resident Evil series… Moments later, Keighley’s unveiling an epic reveal for the ninth mainline game.

Overall, it was a good showcase. There was more than enough there to keep us engaged and watching.
