GTA VI showcase coming to Netflix on August 28

We’ve all been waiting for Rockstar to drop the next Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer, but I don’t think anyone had “Netflix special” on their bingo card.

Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will premiere on Netflix; this is expected to be our first proper look at the game ahead of its November release.

When can I watch the GTA VI Netflix special in Australia?

Aussies, you’ll want to set an early alarm. The GTA VI showcase will be available to stream on Netflix at 5:00 am AEST on Friday, August 28th.

What we’ll actually see is still anyone’s guess. Actual gameplay feels like a safe bet, along with a deeper look at Vice City, new mechanics, and hopefully a few extra surprises before launch.

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look is showing on Netflix on August 28, 5am AEST.

The interesting part is the Netflix deal itself. Never seen this sort of thing before — but it’s Rockstar, and they’re not known for doing things in a traditional manner.

That said, it’s not like they need help getting eyeballs on GTA 6, so this almost certainly wasn’t a cheap partnership. Netflix has been pushing hard into gaming over the last few years, and attaching its name to what’s arguably the biggest entertainment release of the generation is a deal and a half for the streaming giant.

It’s easy to imagine Netflix paying tens of millions of dollars for an event of this magnitude. Even if it’s only exclusive for a moment (no doubt it’ll be live streamed and re uploaded everywhere), the marketing value of getting millions of GTA fans to open Netflix is mega.

Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on November 19th for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
