Video games releasing in September 2025

Septembers’ list of game releases is bursting with fantastic looking AAA and indie titles: Borderlands 4, Dying Light: The Beast, Baby Steps… But they’ve all been absolutely overshadowed by the recent news of Hollow Knight: Silksong releasing in September! The gaming community is abuzz, eagerly waiting to get their hands on the sequel.

Here are our most anticipated games releasing in September 2025:

Hollow Knight: Silksong

The wait is almost over, we can finally take off our clown masks and stop asking “Silksong when?” Yes, Hollow Knight: Silksong launches this month. The Grand Theft Auto of indie games, its release date announcement sent developers scrambling for the hills, delaying their games out of the way.

Hollow Knight re-defined the metroidvania genre, and in the long wait for Silksong, we’ve seen the release of so many imitators that ‘Hollow-like’ should really be its own sub-genre. After eight years of fans frothing for a sequel, the pressure is on Team Cherry to deliver, but from everything we’ve seen so far, it’s hard to be worried.

You play as Hornet — one of the main NPCs from the first game — exploring the insect kingdom of Pharloom, solving mysteries and helping the locals. There’ll be over 200 enemy types to take on and over 40 punishing bosses, which is enough to make any Hollow Knight fan giddy!

Silksong (finally) launches on September 5th for PC and consoles.

Borderlands 4

The other big sequel dropping this month is Borderlands 4, from the franchise that made the looter-shooter genre what it is today. On the new planet of Kairos you’ll get to wreak havoc as one of four new Vault Hunters, arming yourself to the teeth with Borderlands’ signature cornucopia of weapons. There’s a heavy focus on traversal this time around: dashing, double-jumping, climbing, mantling, point-grappling, and the new glide mechanic at your disposal.

After the lukewarm reception of Borderlands 3 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands — and that god awful Borderlands movie — Let’s hope this next entry can be a return to form for the franchise.

Borderlands 4 hits shelves on the 12th of September, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Dying Light: The Beast

Techland’s next entry in the Dying Light series is taking players to the edge! This time around, protagonist Kyle Crane’s DNA is fused with a zombie and he must try to control the beast within.

Open world, parkour mechanics, vehicles and gore galore — this could be just what zombie fans need to treat those flesh cravings. You can also join up with three other players for a co-op experience which could just well be the best way to play.

This is the third main game in the Dying Light franchise and it’s shaping up to be its best. Dying Light: The Beast is coming to PlayStation, Xbox and PC via Steam on September 19th.

Baby Steps

One step, two step, three step…

Baby Steps is a quirky learning exercise for all. Players must take this one a step at a time, learn to walk again in a whacky and wild world. The environments shine as protagonist Nate puts one foot in front of the other in his big grey onesie…

The game’s description is everything: “Play as Nate, an unemployed failson with nothing going for him, until one day he discovers a power he never knew he had… putting one foot in front of the other. — poor Nate. We hope he finds his way.

It sounds like a wake up call for many, another glimpse at a Wall-E-esque future. It’s worrying but it’s plausible! We can’t wait to step into this one come September 24th. Baby Steps is coming to PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.

Silent Hill f

New town, new street — same scary ass fog. Silent Hill f is a spinoff of the Silent Hill series in development by NeoBrand. After a trailer for the new Silent Hill movie dropped just last week, we’re so keen to see more from this series.

This new game is expected to be so scary that it even comes with a warning: “If you feel uncomfortable at any point while playing, please take a break from playing or speak to someone you trust.” — yikes.

Silent Hill f is coming to PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam on September 25th. But it’s $129.95 price tag on PS5 isn’t exactly enticing… Let’s hope it scares our pants off and lives up to the hype.

Sonic Racing: Cross Worlds

Forget Mario Kart World, the blue blur has come for the crown. Sonic Racing: Cross Worlds will have you speeding over land, air, sea and inter-dimensional rifts in a race to the finish line. Mid-race, the track can be changed by driving through ‘travel rings’ that’ll seamlessly send everyone to a completely different world.

Cross Worlds features a massive cast of racers from the Sonic franchise, and will add free DLC racers from other SEGA properties like Joker from Persona 5, Ichiban Kasuga from Like a Dragon, and even singing sensation Hatsune Miku! Mario Kart could never! There’ll also be a paid season pass that’ll add new courses and characters from other franchises like Pac-Man, Spongebob Squarepants and Minecraft!

Sonic Racing: Cross Worlds drifts onto consoles and PC on the 26th of September.
