Well Dweller, A New Metroidvania Flies In

From Kyle Thompson — the developer of Sheepo, Islets, and Crypt Custodian — comes yet another metroidvania featuring a cute anthropomorphic animal protagonist… Go on then, take my money!

Well Dweller follows Glimmer, an adorably tiny black bird, as they flap around a hostile underground world. Wielding a lit match as a weapon, you’ll battle your way through monsters, spirits, and beasts to burn the wicked queen to cinders and save your family.

As you’d expect from a metroidvania, it looks like there’ll be an expansive map to explore, hiding secrets galore and puzzles to solve. While we only had a quick look at the game, it featured enough charm, cute characters, and cool ideas to get me interested.

A highlight from the trailer was when Glimmer shoots their match into the wall and springboards up to a higher area.

They’re no MATCH for Glimmer.
Glimmer straight up bats a molotov cocktail into an enemy’s face!

I haven’t played Sheepo, but both Islets and Crypt Custodian were excellent examples of the genre, so I have high hopes for this one too! Don’t let me down Kyle!

Well Dweller is due out sometime next year. You can wishlist it now on Steam, and check out some of Kyle’s other works while you’re at it!
