Marvel’s Wolverine
Kicking off the State of Play was Marvel’s Wolverine, and we got to see an extended look at the game’s combat and story. The biggest reveal of the event was that Jean Grey will be showing up in the game, ready to throw down with Sentinels alongside you.
No surprise, the game is also shaping up to be fairly gory, as we see Wolverine getting into ferocious combat, either by tearing apart his enemies with his claws, or getting smashed to a pulp and regenerating during a fight.
Of course, given that it’s a Wolverine game, we also got to see some more clips of Sabretooth, who will no doubt be a chaotic force throughout our journey with the iconic X-Man. The game is set to launch on September 15, 2026, with pre-orders going live as of today.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls
Speaking of Marvel, we also got a look at the upcoming fighting game, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. If you’re a Marvel Rivals fan upset at the lack of villain representation in the roster, Marvel Tokon is shaping up to be a welcome change of pace; it’s set to add several iconic villains to its roster.
The trailer shown today revealed that fan favourite villains Doctor Doom, Magneto, Green Goblin, and Carnage will be joining the 2v2 fighting game, showing off some unique dialogue between each other which are definitely a treat for fans.
Given Sony’s recent misfortune with its live-service games, and Riot’s own new fighting game, 2KXO, failing to make a splash, I’m rooting for this one to break the trend and be the hit it deserves to be.
Rayman Legends Retold
Ubisoft were mostly absent from this year’s State of Play, though they did make an appearance to announce a new Rayman game.
Rayman Legends Retold is a full-on remake of 2013’s Rayman Legends, and is set to include “new and improved gameplay”, along with returning levels, trials, and characters.
The remake will also add four new musical stages, along with a reimagined Glade of Dreams, new character encounters, and more. In my opinion, the 2013 game is an instant classic, and if Ubisoft’s new additions are half as good as the original, this one is going to be a surefire hit.
Bancho the Chef
Dave the Diver was a mega hit for the indie studio MINTROCKET, and they’re looking to follow it up with the prequel Bancho the Chef, which follows the fan-favourite character.
This one is looking like a major deviation from the studio’s previous release, and will see you preparing food for your customers, cleaning dishes, catching your own fish, and more. The vibe I got was equal parts Cooking Mama and Yakuza minigame, which is a winning combo in my eyes.
No release date has been announced for this one yet, but you can wishlist it on the PlayStation Store today.
Kemuri: Hunt the Unseen
In what was the most endearing trailer of the event, Kemuri is a new three-player co-op action game that’ll see you roaming the streets of a Shibuya-like city to beat up demons and look cool while doing it.
This one is from Unseen Studios, a new company spearheaded by former devs who worked on both The Evil Within games and Ghostwire: Tokyo.
The game is expected to release sometime in 2027, and is definitely one I’ll be keeping an eye on.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis
Today’s State of Play gave us an extended look at Amazon’s upcoming Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis game, which, if you didn’t already know, is a full-on remake of the classic 1996 game.
The trailer showed off several iconic moments fans are sure to recognise, such as Lara Croft barely escaping the jaws of a T-Rex, several ancient temples that we’ll get lost in, and beating down various goons in hand-to-hand combat.
This one is set to release on February 12, 2027, and is the first of two new Tomb Raider games coming as part of Amazon’s new take on the franchise.
The Lost Wild
Speaking of dinosaurs, we also got our first look at The Lost Wild, which is looking like Alien: Isolation, but with T-Rexes.
This one will see players exploring overgrown research facilities, gathering items and information while avoiding getting eaten by the various dinosaurs roaming the area.
If you’re a fan of dinosaurs, games like Outlast, or generally feeling anxious… this game is for you when it releases sometime in 2027.
Phantom Blade Zero
Phantom Blade Zero made an appearance at the showcase to essentially announce its very own State of Play ahead of its now October release. This one is getting a fair amount of hype behind it, so it’s no surprise that Sony is putting a lot of resources into it.
Given how competitive September is looking and the looming threat of Grand Theft Auto 6’s release in November, it makes sense this one is getting pushed back a bit to give it some breathing room between those releases.
Dune: Awakening PS5 Edition
Dune: Awakening has been in Early Access on PC for almost a year now, and it’s finally making its way over to the PlayStation in 2026.
This version of the game will also be coming with a new single-player mode if you want to avoid any of the PvP aspects of the game. Unfortunately, this also means you won’t get to see people getting eaten by the worms off in the distance as you explore, which was always very funny to see.
Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered
Dynasty Warriors 3 is set to get a new remaster, bringing the PS2 classic to a new console generation.
This one is set to release on October 1st, 2026, and looks to be a treat for fans who are looking to return to the franchise’s peaks after playing through related titles like Persona 5 Strikers, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment and more.
No Rest for the Wicked
After almost a full year in early access, No Rest for the Wicked is set for its full release in October this year.
This one is a new soulslike RPG from the studio behind the Ori series, and is shaping up to be a solid co-op game to play with friends.
As you can expect from the studio, the art in this one is stellar and has been hand-crafted by the devs with their unique painted art style. The world also persistently evolves, even when you’re offline, so you’re always in for a surprise when you log back in.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword
Capcom gave us another look at Onimusha: Way of the Sword ahead of its September 25 release date, and it’s shaping up to be a pretty damn good time.
If you can’t wait for much longer, Capcom has just released a demo for the game following the showcase, so you can dive in and get your first hit ASAP.
Silent Hill: Townfall
Silent Hill is on a generational run right now, and it’s looking to extend it with the next game in the series, Silent Hill: Townfall. Taking place in 1996, this spin-off title follows newcomer Simon Ordell after he wakes up in the fictional Scottish town of St. Amelia.
As you’d expect from the franchise, we’ve seen some pretty grotesque body horror, and some haunting set pieces flooded by red mist, so you can be sure Konami are whipping up new ways to traumatise us with this one.
Silent Hill: Townfall is coming in September, adding to an already stacked lineup of games coming out in the month.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve
Quite possibly the funniest game shown this State of Play, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is promising city-wide destruction while you duke it out in the skies.
The trailer shown this morning revealed that the game has some semblance of a story, but most importantly, will have several waifus you can get attached to before they’re inevitably shot down from the sky right before your eyes.
Bandai Namco also revealed that a PS5 ported version of Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War will be included as a pre-order bonus if you’re keen to dive back into the PS2 classic.
Stuntman Hollywood
If you loved Ryan Gosling’s The Fall Guy, you’re sure to love this. Developed by Sabre Interactive, Stuntman Hollywood is a new racing game, putting players behind the wheel to perform high-stakes precision stunts for movies, instead of your usual traditional racing.
The trailer also revealed we’ll get to drive the DeLorean from Back to the Future, which could set up for some pretty unique set pieces if the time-travelling component stays in the game.
No release date has been announced just yet, but I think a 2027 release is a safe bet.
ILL
ILL is a new first-person action horror game that will take you into a fort overrun by monsters that seem equal parts zombies and The Thing. After waking up from a coma, you’ll find yourself trying your best to survive while unpacking its secrets.
I won’t lie, this one hit me like a flashbang at 7am and was by far the edgiest game shown at the showcase. I mean, there was even a snippet where your character punches a zombie foetus, which was definitely a choice to include in the trailer.
This one is set to release sometime in 2027 and will most likely be a treat for gore-heads looking for some truly nauseating body horror.
Control: Resonant
Remedy Entertainment continues to be one of the most unique studios around, and today gave us an extended look at the upcoming sequel, Control: Resonant.
The new trailer showed off some more context for the game, revealing returning character Dylan’s involvement in the story, his new shapeshifting melee weapon, “The Aberrant”, and how Manhattan has been twisted by an escaped extradimensional entity.
Control: Resonant launches on September 24th.
New Games Coming to PS Classic Catalogue
In the middle of the showcase, Sony revealed that Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy, Gitaroo Man, and Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams will be coming to the PS Classic Catalogue.
If you’ve ever thought about checking out those classics, or revisiting them, you’ll be able to later this year.
Marathon: Season 2
Marathon‘s second season is here, featuring a new nocturnal-themed map. Night Marsh has players roaming pitch-black buildings, while also getting rushed by zombie-like enemies.
The new season will also introduce the new Sentinel shell class, along with new weapons, mods, cores, implants, and of course, The Cradle.
Marathon will be running another open period from today until June 9th for new players who want to check out the game.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds

RuneScape has been having a resurgence in pop culture this year, and developer Jagex is looking to capitalise on the hype by bringing RuneScape Dragonwilds to the PS5.
This survival-crafting game, launched into Early Access last year on PC and was a great success! A wonderful reimagining of the classic game.
Players can expect the game to launch on PlayStation 5 sometime between September and November.
Until Dawn 2
The Until Dawn series is back! This hotly anticipated sequel will see players follow a group of ghost hunting influencers — who fake all of their content — as they come face to face with actual supernatural forces who are out to kill them. Fun.
Excitingly, Neil Newborn (Baldur’s Gate 3) is set to star in the game, and it seems like he’s being set up as either the main villain or a red herring. Either way, more Newborn is always a great thing.
No exact date has been announced for this one, though players can expect it to arrive some time in 2027.
God of War: Laufey
Of course, the star of the show today was Santa Monica’s 23-minute surprise reveal of God of War: Laufey.
This one is set to follow Kratos’ wife Faye, who, after dying, appears in the same afterlife where all other gods go when they’re killed. She quickly comes into conflict with the Egyptian goddess Sekhmet and the Mongolian god of war, Begtse, in an explosive battle.
We also got to see Jack Quaid voice a giant cube that contains a mysterious sword, which has all of the gods terrified.
No confirmation of a release date as of yet, but the game looks mighty polished so far, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we see it release sooner than later.
And that’s the showcase! Overall, I think this one was a home run for Sony. While there were plenty of remakes throughout the State of Play, there were plenty of new titles shown to balance it out. With Grand Theft Auto VI getting ready to swallow the rest of our spare time in November, it’s nice to see that we’re about to be spoiled with some stellar games in September and October to keep us busy until then.
There are still several major showcases to come this week, including Summer Game Fest on June 6th, Frosty Games Fest on June 7th, the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8th, and more.
Be sure to check in with Quest Daily to keep up with all the games being announced this week.
