Control Resonant Is Remedy’s “Most Ambitious Game To Date”

Control Resonant is taking the surreal, chaotic world of 2019’s Control and literally twisting and turning it into something grander. At PlayStation’s February State of Play, we got our first proper look at the gameplay of Remedy’s upcoming sequel.

Abandoning the eerie office confines of the FBC, Control Resonant takes place in a version of Manhattan that seems to be collapsing in on itself. This is paired with the aerial moves of Dylan Faden, brother of the original game’s Jesse. Dylan seems to be able to fly as well as twisting the gravitational pull of the environment. All of this combines to create something that almost looks like a disturbed take on Insomniac’s Spider-Man games.

Gameplay still from the upcoming game Control Resonant
Gravity-defying gameplay and massive boss fights make Control Resonant seem like a massive expansion on the original game.

We got a better idea of the combat, leaning more into melee, rather than the first game’s gunplay focus. There were also plenty of glimpses of some gnarly and bizarre enemies and bosses, seeming perfectly suited to the Control universe.

Dylan Faden runs from a massive enemy in the gameplay trailer for Dylan Faden.
I don’t know what’s going on, but running seems like a wise idea.

As a big fan of Control, the moment-to-moment gameplay was perhaps my least favourite part. In Control Resonant, Remedy don’t appear to be resting on their laurels, taking a bold swing at some wild new systems in what they call their ‘most ambitious game to date’. I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

Control Resonant is due for release some time in 2026.
