Frosty Games Fest 2026 | Our Top Picks

Frosty Games Fest is back in 2026 for its second year to bring us another slew of cool games being made in Australia and New Zealand — the chilly moniker referring to our current winter season and also the aforementioned cool games.

We see some massive variety in this year’s showcase with splashes of horror, fishing sims, and even an online co-op acting multiplayer, Acting Out! While it didn’t make the top five roundup, it earned a demo download, which I’m keen to audition.

Here are the top five games from Frosty Games Fest for your pleasurable perusal.

Cooking for MA!

A debut game from Tuatara Tea Party, Cooking for MA! is a Korean cooking adventure game where you have to save your grandma from an ancient Imoogi sea serpent and bring her back from the spirit world.

Obviously the game had me at cooking, but I also love the whimsical pixel-art dishes and Stardew Valley-esque world. The Korean mythology and culture tie everything together into one delicious package — like a particularly good bibimbap.

Unfortunately there’s no release date or demo available yet, but you can wishlist the game on Steam.

Edwin Earstwhile: Medical Examiner

Edwin Earstwhile: Medical Examiner is a medical detective game set in London in the 1800s from Callum Page, the creator of Daemon Masquerade. The latter is an anime-inspired detective game, so it seems Callum has a type! 😊

What caught my eye about Edwin Earstwhile was how you have to physically examine victims in an autopsy. I’ve always had a thing for Operation. You also question suspects and have to draw conclusions on a corkboard — it’s all very Sherlock Holmes.

Alas, a release date is still to be announced. I deduce I’ll be keeping an eye out for this one.

Allogloom

I was really tossing up between Apothecurse and Allogloom, but the latter won out due to its eerie hand-drawn illustrations and Strange Antiquities style puzzles.

In Allogloom, you’re Nora trying to bring her neighbours back home to Gruesome Grove (each to their own). Collect items, interview people and monsters, and solve puzzles to save your town. Frankly, it looks exactly like the sort of game that’ll have me scribbling clues on a notepad while insisting I’m very clever.

The point-and-click adventure game is out on September 9th on PC via Steam and has a demo available now. Which I’m definitely playing.

Lone Pine

If you liked Firewatch and Nuts, you’ll probably like Lone Pine — a 2D platformer-lite game set in the fictional Lone Pine National Park. It looks to have similarities to Strange Antiquities, which, as established during the Allogloom section, is more than enough to get my attention.

You’re Izzie, an outdoorsy photographer trying to capture evidence of ‘cryptids’. Or Bigfoot. With full voice-acting and lovely hand-drawn art, Lone Pine also reminds me of Life is Strange.

A debut game from Bang Bang Bang Interactive, you can demo the game now on Steam. No release date yet though.

Cozy Game Restoration

Cleaning, cosy games, and a simulation?! Yes, that’s Cozy Game Restoration, a game about cleaning and restoring old game cartridges. Apparently someone looked directly into my Steam library and started taking notes.

Frosty Games Fest confirmed it’ll be out on September 24th, so at least there’s not long to go before we can clean and restore to our heart’s content. It’s basically power-washing for retro gaming enthusiasts, and I’m absolutely the target audience.

If you’re not one for waiting, like me, a demo is thankfully available on Steam right now, so you can get to restoring right away. I know I will be.
