It was a public holiday in January 2018 when I called up my then-boyfriend at the time to see if he was free to spend the day together. I had grand plans to take a trip to the beach, but it was to my dismay that he told me he already had plans – plans to play this new game that had just released called Monster Hunter: Worlds – and that I could come over to watch him instead if I’d like. Little did I know that this would be the start of my love for the Monster Hunter franchise.

It’s been over six years since the release of Monster Hunter: Worlds, and in that time we have had remakes, spin-offs, and some attempts (glances over at Monster Hunter Rise), but nothing has reignited that spark in my heart like Worlds. That is, until the latest trailer and news for Monster Hunter: Wilds in this morning’s PlayStation State of Play!
Here’s everything we know about the game so far.
Monster Hunter: Wilds is a true successor (though currently believed not to be a sequel) to Monster Hunter: Worlds. The trailer boasts a living world in which players can hunt, gather, and explore. Living is absolutely the keyword here, as the frontiers you explore will be dynamic. The environment will be impacted by weather, creatures, and people. These changes will also mean changes in the species of monsters to be found in these locations.

A brand new mount also awaits players; introducing the Seikret, a Velociraptor-esque animal mount that will help players traverse the wilds, guide you to locations, and act as a kind of portable storage.

Hunting monsters looks just as fun as I remember it being in Worlds. The 14 iconic weapon types from the series all return for Wilds (where are my Insect Glaive mains at?), however, they each feature new moves and actions that will help keep combat fresh.

And last but not least, the trailer featured some fun and lively characters that I just can’t wait to meet. As a cat owner, all I want is to be able to recreate my cat Paisley as a Palico (which is hilarious when you know that Paisley is the most anxious animal that has ever roamed this planet). Please, Capcom, let me have a Tortioseshell Palico.

The game is set to release in 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Additionally, if players already have save data from Monster Hunter: World and its DLC Iceborne then they can score some sweet Felyne armor and weapon bonuses when they play. Neat!
