Wizards of the Coast just dropped their full slate of Magic: The Gathering sets for 2026 — and it’s boldly going where Magic hasn’t gone before.
First up, we’re getting a Hobbit-themed Universes Beyond set in August 2026. Expect Bilbo, Smaug, the dwarves — the usual suspects from Tolkien’s tale. This follows up on the Lord of the Rings set released in 2023. Will we see another 1/1 card? Time will tell.

Alongside The Hobbit, we’re going to see at least two more Universes Beyond Sets: Marvel Super Heroes and Star Trek. It’s safe to assume that we’ll see another Infinity Stone card released in the Marvel set, following on from The Soul Stone in Spider-Man.

Star Trek is another foray into (dare I say it) vintage sci-fi. It will be interesting to see how this set stacks up against the Doctor Who set, and how they choose the source material. Will they go classic Star Trek, or pull in material from Enterprise, Deep Space Nine and Voyager. Or perhaps they will lean on the newer movies and series for content instead?
On the in-universe side, we have three confirmed sets: Lorwyn Eclipsed (23rd January), Secrets of Strixhaven (Q2) and Reality Fracture (November 2026). They’ll explore classic planes with fresh mechanics, and we already have a few preview cards!

Alongside the return to everyone’s favourite university in the Multiverse, a young-adult novel was announced too. Strixhaven: Omens of Chaos will follow a group of students on their quest to discover themselves, and where they belong in the wider Multiverse.
Wizards is also expected to unveil another Universes Beyond set at New York Comic Con on October 10th.
With so many sets ahead, Wizards is going there and back again through Magic’s history. 2026 will see us return to familiar planes, and dive into new and familiar Universes Beyond. I can’t wait!
