MtG ‘One Ring’ sold to Post Malone for record price

Wizards of the Coast created something special recently. In some ways, it was less about the product that they had created and more about the feeling it created within those seeking it.

One Ring To Rule Them All.

The 1 of 1 ‘One Ring’ card in the latest Magic the Gathering set created a fever among collectors. It resulted in prices of the Collector Booster packs it could be found in skyrocketing upon release – and then falling equally as fast after it was found.

Until now, very little was known about the lucky person who found this card. The person whose life (provided they weren’t already incredibly wealthy) was about to change forever.

This person has been revealed as Brook Trafton, a 36-year-old retail worker from Toronto.

With offers of well over $1m being publicly offered, it seemed certain the actual price it would fetch would likely exceed those amounts, all Trafton had to do was choose who he would sell it to.

But then something happened that the Ring did not intend. It was picked up by the most unlikely creature imaginable…

Post Malone bought it. Which to some would seem odd. But to those involved in the Magic community, makes a little more sense. Malone has been a long-term fan of MtG, and in fact already owns a signed “Black Lotus”, which up until recently was one of the most rare (and valuable) cards.

It’s believed Malone paid over $2.5 million USD for the card.

The snippet of a video Trafton has posted is heartwarming. It shows someone realising their life has changed forever, and Post geeking out over the fact that he now owns the most valuable Magic the Gathering card in existence.

I guess that is a decent consolation prize for the rest of us who missed out?
