Magic: The Gathering is stepping further into the Marvel universe. Wizards of the Coast’s newest Universes Beyond release, Marvel’s Spider-Man, arrives on September 26th, bringing heroes, villains and web-slinging mechanics.

Web‑slinging, Mayhem and more
Wizards have built this set to feel like a Spider-Man comic. The headline mechanic, Web-Slinging, lets you bounce a tapped creature to help pay a cost, creating big tempo swings. Mayhem rewards you for discarding cards, echoing the chaos of his rogues’ gallery. Alongside these are returning mechanics like Connive and Modified to help tie archetypes together.
Drafting looks a little different too. The set has a smaller pool of cards, so instead of eight players taking one card per pack, four players take two. The idea is to make drafts faster and more dynamic, but we’ll see how this change lands with fans.

Heroes, villains and flavour
All the big names are here. Peter, Miles and Gwen get splashy mythics with abilities that feel like their comics. Villains lean on disruption, discard and sabotage: Green Goblin rains down damage, Doc Ock manipulates your library, Venom grows stronger with each combat. Even the flavour text and art treatments are packed with Easter eggs for Marvel fans.

Collector treats
If you’re into variants, this set is loaded. There are textured foils, alternate costumes and even a Scene Box called Spidey’s Spectacular Showdown that packages key cards with a display piece.
My personal favourites are the “Source Material” reprints, which give existing Magic cards full Marvel comic panels. This is unsurprising as they scratch a very similar itch to the Classic Module treatments that featured in the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms set back in 2021.

Cards to watch
There are a few cards I’ll be looking to snap up.

Anti-Venom, Horrifying Healer can bring a creature back to the battlefield from your graveyard as it enters. But additionally, if damage would be dealt it, you prevent the damage and put +1/+1 counters on him instead.

For players with a mill/graveyard deck, Norman Osborn // Green Goblin will be a fun addition. When he transforms into Green Goblin, nonlands in your graveyard have Mayhem. This allows you to cast them from your graveyard, for 2 less mana than their standard cost.

The Soul Stone is a high-impact card that can control the flow of the game by removing threats or forcing sacrifices. Its abilities let you gain incremental advantage over time, making it a strong choice for control or midrange decks. The multiple premium versions also make it a collector favourite.
When and how to get it

Prerelease began on September 19th at local stores, with full release on September 26th.
Play Boosters, Collector Boosters, Bundles and Scene Boxes will all be on shelves. There’s no dedicated Commander deck this time, but a “Commander’s Bundle” with promos and boosters has been announced instead.
Quest Daily was supplied product from the latest set for the purpose of this article.
