In 2015, Square Enix released Life is Strange, a now classic narrative driven game where every choice you make has a detrimental effect on how you progress. During Xbox’s most recent showcase, fans were excited to learn that Life is Strange: Double Exposure, a sequel to the original story, is coming out later this year.
Quest Daily was invited by the publisher to view an extended gameplay trailer and presentation to learn more about this time bending mystery.
Bending the Rules of Time
In Life is Strange: Double Exposure, you play as an adult Max Caulfield, the protagonist from the first game. Life has changed a lot for Max, she is now a student and a photographer-in-residence at the prestigious Caledonia University, a far cry from the small Arcadia Bay that she grew up in.

Here, she has a tight knit group of friends, with a girl called Safi considered her closest companion. One night, while hanging out, Safi receives a phone call, suddenly leaving the group and scurrying off across campus. On Max’s way back to her dormitory, she finds evidence that something suspicious has happened to her friend. Following footsteps in the snow, she eventually finds a body sitting on a bench and realises that it is Safi’s. She has been murdered!
Upset and scared, Max is tasked with solving this murder mystery by using a new, powerful time shifting ability which is unleashed within her. This supernatural gift allows her to jump between parallel versions of her own world. In one world Safi is dead and in the other, she is still alive.
Using her new power, she discovers shift spots, which are weaknesses in the timeline of the universe. Here, she literally tears the world apart and travels to the other side. In this alternate reality, Max can talk to different people, including Safi, discover new clues about the murder and solve various puzzles that will ultimately affect each coexisting world.
