Magic The Gathering | Card Reveal: Star Trek — Those Old Scientists

Magic: The Gathering’s Star Trek set is revisiting one of the franchise’s most chaotic crossovers, and today Quest Daily can exclusively reveal Those Old Scientists, a blue Saga named after the Strange New Worlds x Lower Decks crossover episode.

What’s the card?

Those Old Scientists is a three-mana ({2}{U}) Enchantment — Saga from Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek. The name comes from the Season 2 episode of Strange New Worlds, where Lower Decks’ Boimler and Mariner are sent back in time to meet Captain Pike and the crew of the Enterprise.

The artwork leans into the animated style of that episode, which ends with the Enterprise crew getting the Lower Decks cartoon treatment.

How does it work?

A Saga gets a lore counter when it enters and again after your draw step, and each counter triggers a chapter. After chapter III, it’s sacrificed.

Those Old Scientists starts by drawing two cards, then discarding two. Next turn, it returns one artifact, instant or sorcery from your graveyard to your hand, which could be something you just discarded. On the final turn, you choose up to two cards in any graveyards, and their owners shuffle them back into their libraries.
