As showcase season comes to a close, and to mark my Quest Daily anniversary, I’m revisiting the very first game I ever previewed here: Egging On! First revealed during Summer Game Fest 2024, this bizarre physics platformer has returned with a playable demo as part of Steam Next Fest. We’ve come full circle — and, well, it’s been a ride.

The demo begins in the yard outside a henhouse, where a soothing narrator invites you inside. Getting up the plank and into the coop takes some real momentum — remember, it is a physics game. From there, you have to reach the roof, which is easier said than done. Expect gaps, slopes, moving planks, and a whole lot of slipping.
Fall from a height and you’ll crack. Fall even further and, well… you’re scrambled (well, sunny side up). Thankfully, your eggy self regenerates through some mystical yolk magic, leaving behind a sad little pile of shell as a reminder of your failure.

Here are some actual thoughts I had while playing:
- Was I drunk when I thought I would be good at this?
- Okay but seriously, who can play this?
- This is for people who like Elden Ring, right? That’s not me. That’s my cousin with 10,000 hours logged.
- IS THE GAME DOING THIS ON PURPOSE???
Yeah. It wasn’t great, fam. Egging On isn’t just hard — it’s exhausting. If I had more patience, maybe I’d be into it. But the way it’s built feels intentionally punishing. Challenging, sure, if you’re the Dark Souls type. But if you’re like me — ADHD-brained and allergic to tedium — it’s a recipe for rage-quitting.
Midway through the chaos, I found out there’s a Drone Assist mode. Too bad I’d already started the demo and couldn’t turn it on. Rats. I highly recommend enabling it right away if you’re even a little impatient. I expect this kind of thing will be available in the full release.

Don’t get me wrong — Egging On is still fun. If you’re a glutton for punishment. There are shortcuts to get to the top, so keep an eye out. The narrator even roasted me when I found one. Jerk. After an hour of trial, error, and dyeing my egg purple in a desperate attempt to shake things up, I gave up. Egging On isn’t for me, but if you love brutally precise physics games, it might be your next obsession.
