New Year’s Resolutions for Gamers

Written by Rhiannen ‘Doomcutie’ Austin

The time has come, gamers! New Year’s Resolutions. The respawn we look forward to every year, an extra life, only this time a little wiser.

The practice of making resolutions can be traced back to ancient Babylon, around 4000 years ago. Babylonians would once celebrate the New Year with the planting of new crops, making promises to the gods, while repay debts and doing good.

But society has come a long way since then, and our resolutions now revolve around our interests, gaming included. Within the gaming community, there is always something to improve on.

Here’s some of my resolution thought provokers for 2024:

For the Achievement Hunter

We all have that one gamer friend who has a completionism mentality, and they will stop at nothing to ensure they see that shiny “100%” for their efforts.

They know every map, piece of lore and location of every collectible in the games they play — and if you’re not sure if they know… Don’t worry, they’ll tell you. With astronomical amounts of trophies and gamerscores into the hundreds of thousands, you can be sure their gaming path is a very measured experience.

(Xbox)

I am particularly fond of this kind of gamer, they play anything and everything and get to experience a vast array of gaming genres. From a quick 4000 Gamerscore in Butterfly to the latest AAA title, there’s no game too big or too small.

It’s always interesting to see the gaming wrap-ups people share in December each year, displaying how much time they have spent in games; I personally spent 1137 hours playing Xbox this year (thanks, internet). For this particular gamer, the resolutions exist within how many games they can 100%, or reaching a particular trophy count or gamerscore.

From the ridiculous to the modest, this is a very easy decision for achievement hunters and is always fun to see people show off their progress.

This noble quest for achievement can also provide a unique community experience, competing with friends on leaderboards to see who can get the highest scores monthly and across the year.

For the Collector

(Stanislav Kondratiev)

Collectors are extremely passionate individuals who relish in accumulating their favourite gaming items. They curate an extensive collection of video games, gaming memorabilia and paraphernalia, all in the name of gaming.

Their appreciation knows no bounds as they search every curb side rubbish, Facebook marketplace and eBay listing — while also keeping an eye out the latest releases to one day complete their beloved collections.

Collectors might be interested in completing a particular part of their collection, whether it be from a specific franchise, or acquiring hard to find items within their collection. Or perhaps they want to reorganise their collection; collectors are notorious for being very particular on how their wears are displayed.

The myriad of collectors that share collections online is astounding, it’s amazing to see how their collections grow and change over the years.

I’m a collector of Xbox controllers and there are some incredibly beautiful and rare ones I would love to add to my collection — in particular the Forza Motorsport 6 Wireless Xbox Controller **Looks at eBay every day of 2024**.

For the Content Creator

These members of the community share their passion for games through streaming, videos, photos and reviews. They cultivate communities and promote the all of latest trends and releases. Whether you’re part time, full time or just a hobbyist, creating gaming content can be a lot of fun both on and off the screen.

Content creators are always creating goals for themselves and often reflect on how well their content is performing. For a seasoned content creator, cultivating relationships with brands and their peers is top of the list. I adore seeing the end of year achievements they often post, it’s so heartwarming to see their progress both big and small.

Goal setting is essential to the success of most content creators so their New Year’s Resolutions usually come in form of subscribers or followers. Growing the community is a sign of success and can mean financial independence for some.

Or maybe you’re more focused on collaborating? Or traveling to the various gaming conventions in 2024?

Everything else

This list is not exhaustive, every gamer is unique and values their experience in a variety of ways.

Perhaps it’s finally finishing that farm in Stardew Valley or finishing every Fortnite Battlepass in 2024? Or maybe you are content and wish to simply continue at your pace in the New Year.

Whatever it may be, I’m just glad my completion of my resolutions isn’t the depending factor on the success of a crop! Let us know in the comments what your 2024 gaming resolutions are.

The team at Quest Daily wish you well on all your gaming resolutions and look forward to bringing you more gaming content in 2024.
