It’s dangerous to fight separatists alone! Take a droid with you!
In STAR WARS Zero Company you’re given a bunch of operators to choose from to form your squad of four, all with different talents and abilities. While choosing between a Jedi Padawan and a Mandalorian Warrior might be hard, the easiest decision of all should be to always have an adorable little droid in your line-up.
Here’s why you’ll want to unlock Astromechs ASAP and always have one in your party:

Crowd Control
While other classes only have one utility slot to begin with, Astromechs have all three available, meaning you can equip three utility items at once: grenades, smoke bombs, medpacs, etc. That’s already pretty handy, but combined with the ‘extended storage’ and ‘storage optimization’ perks in the mech’s skill tree, it gets almost overpowered. The perks both add an extra use of utility items that have a limited use, so one impact bomb now becomes three!
Having nine grenades at my disposal in every fight was a crowd control dream. Groups of separatist droids would cop a ‘droid popper’ to the face, often destroying B-1 battle droids in one hit. Humanoids would receive a gift-wrapped delivery of ‘thermal detonators’. And anyone unlucky enough to be close to a ledge would get blasted right off with a well aimed ‘concussion grenade’, even the strongest of enemies fall in one shot if they’re pushed into the abyss!

Be sure to save a couple of grenades for enemy reinforcements, when they arrive they tend to bunch up together, and are a prime target for mass extermination.
While it can feel over-powered at times, there are some instances where enemies are too spread out for it to be as effective, but Astromechs have more to them than just lobbing grenades.

Tech Support
Crowd controlling explosions aside, Droids are all about support. Swap a grenade for a medpac and you’ve got a DIY combat medic ready to fling heals at your frontline fighters, or a smoke bomb to create cover for your allies.
Their ‘Built-in Comlink’ skill is also super clutch. It allows you to gift an action point to another operative, meaning they can take more actions than normal. At the highest level, a droid can give all its AP away. It has come in so handy for me over so many battles; whether I just need one more hit to finish off an enemy, or an extra bit of movement to get my last squad member to the evac zone, the AP movement can save the day.
The ‘Coordinated Support’ skill is expensive to use, but at it’s highest upgrade can give out an extra 2 AP to all operatives, including the droid itself. Popping this after your other crew have already had their turns feels like a cheat code for extra movement and combat.

After unlocking my astromech, BR-1, it never left my side once. Whether it’s setting a group of enemies alight with a firebomb, or giving out AP like candy, these little droids ALWAYS come in handy.
