Review | GORN on PS VR2 is ‘an absolute bloody treat’

While it’s been around for years, I didn’t quite know what to expect from GORN, but I got more than I could’ve hoped for!

Developed by Free Lives (Terra Nil, Broforce) and published by Devolver Digital, this ridiculous gladiator VR experience is an absolute bloody treat.

Yes, GORN is rated R18+. (Supplied)

While there’s little learning curve, and almost no enemy and level variety, it still brings a smorgasbord of fun gameplay to the table.

In GORN, you step into the shoes of a gladiator and take on waves of brute-like enemies with a variety of classic weapons.

Shield in one hand, flail in the other. Violently swinging around, breaking bodies and faces. Pure joy.

“ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?”

Moving around in VR differs from game to game, but one that’s seemingly popular with action games is the grab-and-pull.

The grab-and-pull movement is on default, I quickly changed the shit out of that – no thank you, this game is already a workout as it is!

It’s bleeding with cartoonish violence and guarantees me to work up a sweat.

Grabbing a weapon from a brute’s corpse and using it to smash in the face of the next challenger is so unnecessary, but so satisfying. I relish the moment of each victory when commanded to raise my fist high.

It’s far from the perfect game, and it’s certainly not claiming to be the best next-gen PS VR2 experience out there, but it’s a great VR title and provided me with hours of stupid fun.

This VR game is one of those games I’ll always keep installed on the console and play when I have nothing else on the go.

GORN is out now on the PS VR2, with a free upgrade available for those who already owned GORN on the original PS VR.
