Your PS Plus Essential games for September – and a cheeky price increase!

Playstation is kicking off September with not only 3 monthly games but also a significant price increase for all subscription holders. Talk about sweet and sour!

Saints Row, Black Desert – Traveler Edition, and Generation Zero will be available for all PlayStation Plus tiers on September 5th.

Let’s take a closer look at each game.

Saints Row

The relatively new Saints Row reboot only launched in August last year, but was met with a less than positive critical reception. It’s received plenty of updates since though, so it just might be the best time to try your hand at the game.

Explore the world of Santo Ileso, the biggest Saints Row playground yet. Take on criminal ventures, action-packed missions and fight your way through enemy factions to take control of the streets.
Play it solo or bring a friend with online drop-in/drop-out co-op.

Black Desert – Traveler Edition

Black Desert is a bit of an older title, but one that has garnered a massive following online.
Jump into the open-world fantasy MMORPG and seek out adventure, with fast-paced PvE combat, large-scale PvP siege wars, and plenty of character classes and combat types to sink your teeth into.

The game isn’t all hacking and slashing though, why not try your hand at a trade; fishing, horse training, alchemy, cooking, gathering; there’s plenty of activities to keep you busy.

Generation Zero

Wage guerilla warfare against deadly machines in this stealth-action shooter set in 1980s Sweden.
In Generation Zero, strategically choose your battles and scavenge the parts of fallen enemies to craft weapons, equipment, and ammunition to help fortify your bases across the island.
Journey into this first-person open-world adventure alone or with three friends in online co-op.

Make sure you’ve claimed August’s monthly games; PGA Tour 2K23, Dreams, and Death’s Door as they will leave the service on September 4th.

PlayStation Plus Price Increase

PlayStation has also announced that, as of September 6th, pricing of subscriptions will be increasing. Looking at the Australian prices below it is a significant increase:

PlayStation Plus Essential 12-Month Subscription
Increasing 20% from $79.95 to $95.95
PlayStation Plus Extra 12-Month Subscription
Increasing 26% from $134.95 to $169.95
PlayStation Plus Deluxe 12-Month Subscription
Increasing 27% from $154.95 to $196.95

‘This price adjustment will enable us to continue bringing high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service.’ PlayStation

It’s not really clear why the price adjustment is needed, it’s not as if PlayStation first party games currently release day and date onto the service.

Perhaps the increase is in the lead up to PlayStation’s big push into live service games, intended to launch on PS+? These types of games live and die by their user base, so PlayStation will want as many hands on as possible.

For now though, the new pricing is a bitter pill to swallow.
