Video games releasing in August 2023

August is here, and with it comes more video game releases! On the outside, it may look like a bit of a slower month with no exclusives from the big three, but there are some great-looking video games coming soon to an Xbox, PlayStation, Switch or PC near you.

Baldur’s Gate 3, and Armored Core VI look to be the heavy hitters, with smaller indie gems like Moving Out 2 and Sea of Stars filling out the month.

Here are all the best video games releasing in August.

Baldur’s Gate 3

Set in the Dungeons and Dragons universe, Baldur’s Gate 3 is a story-heavy party-based RPG where major decisions and actions rely on the luck of a dice roll… A 20-sided dice roll.

Larian Studios seem to have gone above and beyond with the romance options… So far beyond. It was reported a few weeks back that you can have S.E.X. with a bear! Well, technically a druid in bear form.
I’m sure plenty of players will be walking that grizzly path, all in the name of science.

Baldur’s Gate 3 releases on August 3rd for PC (Console versions in early September).

Atlas Fallen

What if someone took a skating game, an ARPG and a whole BUNCH of sand and mushed them all together? That’s what Atlas Fallen looks like to me.

The world looks intriguing, the traversal fast and fun, hopefully the combat provides a bit of a challenge and those big enemies aren’t too bullet-spongey.

I’m looking forward to skating around on the sand dunes in this one.

Atlas Fallen slides onto PS5, Xbox Series and PC August 10th.

Moving Out 2

The much-loved physics-based moving simulator is back! In Moving Out 2, you and your mates can role-play as the worst removalists in town, causing absolute chaos and property damage!

Race the clock and get that house packed up pronto! Jump, throw, catch, lift and even slap your teammates to get the job done. And if you get a couch stuck on the stairs just remember to PIVOT!

The moving van is coming on August 15th, Moving Out 2 releasing for consoles and PC.

Immortals of Aveum

EA Originals and Ascendant Studios’ brand-new original IP is almost here.

Immortals of Aveum is a first-person single-player magic-shooter and sees players take control of Jak, a young and fiery Battlemage setting out to save the world from the ‘edge of abyss’.

It’s been described as Call of Duty with magic, so if that’s your thing be sure to check it out.

Immortals of Aveum releases on August 22nd for PS5, Xbox Series and PC.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon

In Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, players take control of a heavily armed Mech and explore a world equipped with jet packs and thrusters, all while taking out droves of gun-wielding enemies.

Developed by FromSoftware, the same team behind 2022’s Game of the Year Elden Ring, Armored Core VI is shaping up to be a must-play for all action and shooter gamers.

A recent walkthrough video was released highlighting almost 14 minutes of fresh gameplay. You can check it out here

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is out on August 25th for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and PC.

Sea of Stars

Sabotage Studio’s stunning new game, Sea of Stars, follows the Children of the Solstice, who wield the powers of the sun and moon, in their quest to defeat the dreaded Fleshmancer.
With gorgeous pixel art and animation, six playable characters, dynamic day/night cycles, sailing, cooking, fishing, and more.

Sea of Stars will launch onto the PS Plus Game Catalogue and Xbox Game Pass on August 29th, also available to purchase on consoles and PC.

Goodbye Volcano High

This narrative-driven rhythm-game follows a group of young dinosaurs preparing to graduate Highschool… But also come to grips with their imminent demise as a colossal meteor races toward earth.

Goodbye Volcano High has a colourful and eye-catching art style, and the music and voice acting seems top notch too. Dripping with teenage angst, it’s the dino-drama we never knew we needed!

Goodbye Volcano High is set to releasing on August 29th for PS4, PS5 and PC.

Other games out this month

There are some sleeper hits in there, I can feel it!
I’m really keen on Sea of Stars and am excited to try out Baldur’s Gate 3, though I’ll wait for the PS5 version on September 6th.
