Season 8: Call of the Hunt is an epic Beast Hunter-themed season that introduces some pretty badass cosmetics and voicelines.
The new season also introduces the formidable Tank hero, Mauga, festive holiday events, and Hero Mastery courses. Read on for a glimpse into the exciting features that await you!
Meet Mauga, the Dual Chaingun-Wielding Tactician
Having showcased Mauga’s prowess during BlizzCon 2023, Overwatch 2 now introduces him as the latest Tank hero.
Armed with dual chainguns capable of incinerating foes, Mauga is a force to be reckoned with. His abilities, such as Overrun allow him to charge through enemies whilst reinforcing his team with Cardiac Overdrive.

Mauga was built for aggressive, close-range combat. His ultimate Cage Fight brings down a brutal barrier that traps enemies whilst he unleashes on them with unlimited ammo.
Following player feedback, adjustments have been made to Mauga, enhancing his chainguns’ power and adding Armor HP for increased durability. These changes allow him to be in the fight for longer.
New Gamemode and Player Favourites Return!
What else is new?
Fight in a powerful brawl with epic and powerful Grand Beasts in a fun 4v4 PvPvE game mode: The Battle of the Beasts. In a clash of Grand Beasts, protect yours while coordinating with your team to defeat the enemy beast. You’ll be able to play Mauga for free as the only tank to play in this mode, or try your hand as one of many other hunter-themed heroes and tear through the Grand Beast’s health while trying to avoid powerful abilities.

Theres also the highly anticipated return of Winter Wonderland 2023 launching on December 19th, and Lunar New Year 2024 seasonal events. Brace yourself for the resurgence of beloved game modes, including Mei’s Snowball Offensive, Yeti Hunt, Capture the Flag, and Bounty Hunter Deathmatch.

As the Lunar New Year approaches, Overwatch 2 unveils the return of Prop Hunt, now known as Mischief and Magic, set on the vibrant Lijiang Night Market map.
Season 8 Introduces More Weapon Skins
Unleash a new era of customisation with Weapon Skins, starting with the sleek Hard Light theme for Rein, Reaper, and Mercy. These skins, featuring custom visual and sound effects, can be paired with any of the heroes’ existing skins.

Previously the only weapon variants we had were the Gold variants that could be purchased with Ranked reward points. It looks like Overwatch 2 may be expanding its weapon customisation in future seasons.
