A new PlayStation 5 update is now live bringing a slew of new options for accessibility, social and Remote Play. There’s a bunch UI and audio updates too!
Accessibility

The ability to use a second DualSense controller, to assist another player, has been added. Two controllers can now be assigned to the same account, and used in tandem to operate the PS5.
Sounds like a great option for gamers with disabilities or children learning to play.
Does this mean I should play through Bloodborne with my 4 year old?

Remote Play
The Remote Play app can now be installed on devices running Android TV OS 12.
Remote Play allows you to stream games you already own directly from your console to a separate device via the internet of local Wi-Fi.

Social
There are a few new social updates, allowing new ways to connect with your friends.
- Party UI has been given a spruce up; you can now invite players to a closed party without adding them to the group. Group invites are also now a thing.
- In the ‘friends’ tab, you can now see who is playing a ‘joinable’ game, and then join them directly.
- There’s a new ‘tournaments tile’ in the game hub, where you can view tournaments you’ve previously entered and what ranking you achieved.
- When a players’ screen is being shared within a party, you can now preview that screen-share before joining the party. No more hopping in randomly and distracting the squad from clutching that chicken dinner!
- You can now react to direct messages with emojis, cutting edge tech that.
The emoji and screen-sharing features will also roll out to the PS App (iOS & Android) later this month.

Other Features
- Dolby Atmos support has finally been added for compatible devices.
- Haptic feedback can be turned on within the PlayStation UI for that extra sensory dashboard experience. The extra feedback on button presses will be particularly useful for the vision and hearing impaired.
- You’ll be able to mute or change the volume of the PS5 beep… Why you’d want to is the real question? The beep is the signal to my brain to get into gamer mode!
- The card based help system has been improved, and you can now search for games in your library instead of scrolling through them all.
- The new support for M.2 SSDs has increased from 4TB to 8TB.
- For US and UK users, there are also new voice command options to navigate ‘help’ content and PlayStation news. Let’s hope we get those features in the Oceania region soon.
