Nintendo’s September Direct – All the announcements

That’s a wrap on another Direct! Nintendo have given a 40-minute look at what they have upcoming for the rest of the year; with a glimpse into 2024.

Here’s all the biggest announcements:

Mario Vs. Donkey Kong — February 16, 2024

Faithful to the platforming, puzzle-solving gameplay of the original Game Boy Advance classic; Mario Vs. Donkey Kong is coming to the Switch with updated 3D graphics, fully animated cutscenes, and the addition of local co-op gameplay.

Super Mario RPG Remake — November 17, 2023

Super Mario RPG is back. The long-awaited remake has returned 27 years later with another major dip into player nostalgia. With updated visuals and a mixture of classic & modern gameplay mechanics; it’s looking like a winner!

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown — January 18, 2024

Prince of Persia The Lost Crown is a stylish 2D side-scrolling adventure set in a mythological Persian world. Battle colossal creatures, parkour around a treacherous world, manipulate time and solve mysterious puzzles.

Tomb Raider I-III Remastered: Starring Lara Croft — February 14, 2024

The first three Tomb Raider classics are getting the remaster treatment. The legendary game collection has been given upgraded visuals, however, players will be able to switch to the original polygonal look in-game anytime.

Princess Peach: Showtime! — March 22, 2024

In this solo adventure, Princess Peach faces off against the Wicked Grape and the Sour Bunch who have taken over the Sparkle Theatre. A magic ribbon helps Peach transform into different forms and gain new abilities such as Swordfighting, Kung-Fu and Detective skills.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door — Sometime in 2024

Mario remakes/remasters seem to be a bit of a trend in this direct; Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door was announced for the Switch. This faithful adaptation of the GameCube original, features beautifully updated graphics and animation. Follow a paper-thin Mario in this uniquely designed turn-based RPG adventure and unfold the mystery of the ancient Thousand-Year Door.

F-Zero 99 — Available Now!

In the same vein as Tetris 99; F-Zero 99 puts a battle-royale spin on the classic SNES racing game. 99 racers will tear through classic courses, completing in-game challenges to unlock cosmetics for their machine, all while attempting to keep their power meter from hitting zero. The game is available as part of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription as of today.

Detective Pikachu Returns  — October 6, 2023

We got a considerable look at the highly anticipated Detective Pikachu Returns. In this adventure game, players control Tim Goodman as he works with the coffee-obsessed Detective Pikachu, solving mysteries across Ryme City. Tim will collect clues by talking to other humans, whilst Pikachu will do the same with the Pokémon. Pikachu will also be able to commandeer special abilities from other Pokémon to gain the upper-hand in their investigation; for example, seeing through walls with Luxray.

Bandle Tale: A League of Legends Story  — Sometime in 2024

This crafting-focused RPG set in the whimsical world of Bandle City, looks to be a delightful approach to a League of Legends and Stardew Valley crossover. Featuring a pixel-art style, the player will experience the world as their own Yordle creation, trying to fix a malfunctioning portal network. It’ll be up to the player to collect resources, craft items, and follow quests to restore the network. Players will also meet League of Legends champions such as Teemo, Heimerdinger, Lulu, Corki, Veigar, and more!

Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story  — November 1, 2023

Yet another League of Legends spinoff; Song of Nunu, is a single-player story adventure that follows champion Nunu and best friend Willump as they journey through the region of Freljord. Players will need to jump, sled, and climb their way through stunning glaciers and snowy plains, to solve puzzles and uncover the iconic duo’s past.

What an absolute delight this Nintendo Direct has been. With so many classics being brought back, my heart is full with nostalgia! With a few all-new titles to balance it all out, there really is something for everyone in this September presentation!
