Wizards of the Coast’s hotly anticipated collaboration with Square Enix has officially hit shelves. After an exciting prerelease, fans of both Magic the Gathering and Final Fantasy can finally get their hands on these beautiful — often shiny — pieces of dopamine inducing cardboard.
This new set brings the epic series of Final Fantasy games into Magic, packed with all our favourite characters, spells, summons, and iconic locations.
The team here has been desperately waiting to get their hands on this one! With our preorders at the ready, we’ve been getting stuck in and have already had some great pulls.

The World of Final Fantasy in Magic
From classic heroes like Cloud and Tifa, to powerful summons like Bahamut and Leviathan, this set lets you build your ultimate party.
You’ll be able to collect legendary creatures like ‘Gilgamesh, Master-at-Arms’ and ‘Firion, Swordmaster’. As well as spells that bring the magic and firepower of Final Fantasy to your deck.
Gotta’ say, it was pretty epic pulling a mythic Buster Sword artifact from a play booster.
There’s even a chance to ride the iconic Chocobo! Keep your eyes open for the Serialised Golden Chocobo card — a rare collectible that’ll be worth enough to pay for a small car, overseas holiday, or — better yet — more Magic!

Where to Find the Set
Whether you’re a longtime player or new to Magic, the Final Fantasy set offers exciting gameplay and collectible cards that are sure to please. It is a chance for Magic players and Final Fantasy fans to come together and experience both worlds.
Wizard’s released special editions of all four pre-con Commander Decks, and despite a combined cost of over $1,000, they’re already scarce. If you didn’t pre-order, you’ll need to consider the secondary (inflated) market to get your hands on those.

Collector Boosters will cost you around $72, up from a RRP of $50 for other sets. Play Boosters are sitting on shelves for about $12, a $2 premium above previous releases. If you’re not fussed on the dopamine hits from buyer a pack, there’s a starter set available for ~$30-35.
Looking at pre-order costs for the Spider-Man set coming later this year, it appears that the licensing costs for these sets are being paid for by the consumer. But given their popularity, it doesn’t look like it’s having any negative impact on sales!
