Five Games To Play If You Like ‘Where’s Wally?’

Hidden object games; my relationship with them is complicated.

While I adore the Where’s Wally? books of my childhood, I often find myself wishing for a great video-game adaptation of the genre.

If you call him Waldo, we can not be friends. (Where’s Wally?)

Often I’m left feeling cheap with the myriad of tacky hidden object games on Steam (most of which look like mobile games that would steal my bank details if given the opportunity).

100 Hidden Objects

100 Hidden Snails: I could do this all day. (Anatoliy Loginovskikh)

As you scroll to find all 100 objects, you are treated to some heckin’ good EDM (nothing like an absolute bop to rave to while searching for 100 Hidden Snails). If you’re looking to dip your toe into the franchise, 100 Hidden Frogs is free to play, with the others ranging in price at a couple of dollars each.

Hidden Through Time: Me too doggo, me too.

A more traditional approach to the Where’s Wally? way of life, Hidden Through Time is an AMAZING hidden object game.

Travel through time in every level as humanity advances and society develops. Along the way, you must search and find several hidden objects. From prehistoric cavemen to medieval knights, there are many fun levels to explore.

When you’re done with the first game and it’s paid DLC, why not play the second one? Hidden Through Time 2: Myths and Magic was released in 2023, and while I’m yet to give it a whirl, you can bet that it’s on my wishlist.

New Pokémon Snap

Platform: Nintendo Switch

New Pokémon Snap: Eye spy with my little eye, an absolutely adorable Squirtle. (Nintendo)

Of course, how can a Pokémon fanatic go further into this list without mentioning the likes of Pokémon Snap. Both the original N64 AND ‘New’ versions are available on Switch, the former being available only through the Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

There are hidden ways to interact with Pokémon, and if you interact with them in one way at the start of the level, it can change how they behave later in that same run. Spot them all and take as many photos as you can to rack up points and unlock new areas.

Labyrinth City: Pierre the Maze Detective

Platforms: iOS, Steam, Nintendo Switch

Labyrinth City: Pierre the Maze Detective: this game gives me false confidence to go out and solve a real maze. (Darjeeling Productions)

Adapted from the children’s book series of the same name, Labyrinth City: Pierre the Maze Detective looks and feels exactly like a Where’s Wally? book. But in this case, the book has come to life and you have to help navigate from page to page through a maze.

You play as Pierre, a young detective who must chase down and retrieve the stolen Maze Stone. Along the way, you make the acquaintance of some whimsical characters and solve puzzles to reach the end goal.

Perhaps less a search-and-find and more of a maze puzzle, but there’s still a Where’s Wally? vibe at its core.

So there you have it: a list of fantastic Where’s-Wally?-esque games to keep you entertained for hours to come.
