Aussie tech company unveils ‘world’s most powerful portable touchscreen’

It’s exciting to see Aussie tech kicking goals, and that’s exactly what espresso Displays are doing.

I fell in love with their first portable display, its simplicity was a welcome addition to my chaotic life.

Their original display is a staple in my home office, but now they’ve really taken it to another level.

The espresso Pro 17 has been unveiled and is a significant leap ahead of the original design.

Offering a 17.3-inch 4K display, 1 billion colours (compared to 16.2 million on the standard display) and 450 nits of brightness, all powered by your laptop or mobile device.

There’s no new connections or added buttons, just two USB-C ports. The simplicity of the device is what sold me on the original.

It weighs 200 grams more than the standard 15-inch display, but you’re getting more features and screen real estate.

Last week, I had a first-look at the impressive espresso Pro 17 at PAX Aus.

Set aside in the corner of the Pan Pacific hotel, sat upon what I thought was a small pedestal, was the sleek new display.

A standout was the software to coincide with the display; Jot by Espresso.

It acts as an overlay to documents, web browsing — you name it. Using the back of the pen you can easily take screenshots, highlight documents, draw and insert images.

But it wasn’t just the display that had me excited, it was the new stand with attachable battery pack (or what I thought was a fancy pedestal).

The battery pack offers 27,000mAh and is airline approved. Game changer.

While I haven’t tested it yet, in theory this new setup should be able to power devices like the Nintendo Switch.

The standard 13-inch espresso Display starts at $299, with the 15-inch touch retailing for $499.

When it comes to the latest model, there’s no surprises that a “Pro” display is going to set you back more than the standard.

On its own, the new espresso Pro 17 is going for $1,499 — stand included.

You can also pre-order the Studio Bundle for $1,925, which includes a bunch of extras; battery pack, stand, pen, protective case and creative screen protector.

It’s certainly not going to be for everyone, but for the world’s creatives and those on the go it’s a must have.

The company has labeled their latest product the “world’s most powerful portable touchscreen”, and I’m yet to prove them wrong.

The espresso Pro 17 is available for preorder from today and will ship in November.
