When it comes to portable displays and monitors, espressoDisplay is near unrivalled and is the most user friendly device of its kind.
I’ve had the pleasure of using this display for several weeks now, and I can confidently say that it exceeds all expectations. Not only does it deliver exceptional performance, but it is also remarkably user-friendly, eliminating the need for buttons or complex setups (I’m often an extremely impatient person, so this was perfect).
Just plug it in and you’re ready to dive into a new video game or lift your productivity in the office.
I tested the espressoDisplay with various devices, including gaming consoles, laptops, and PCs, and it consistently delivers.

Its lightweight and sleek design makes it incredibly portable, and the bright 1080p display, spanning 15.6 inches, provides a visually delightful experience. In fact, the espressoDisplay claims to hold the title of the world’s thinnest portable display, measuring a mere 5.3mm thin – it fits perfectly in my backpack alongside my laptop (and lunch). It’s also incredibly lightweight, at just 865 grams.
Designed in Sydney, Australia, it’s a breath of fresh air to witness a product of such exceptional quality emerging from our own backyard.
The espressoDisplay has exceptional compatibility, seamlessly integrating with a wide range of devices. Working with Apple products like the MacBook, iPhone and iPad (with screen mirroring functionality), Android devices, desktop computers, laptops, Samsung Galaxy devices, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and even select DSLR cameras.
Gaming on the espressoDisplay
The espressoDisplay connects perfectly with the ASUS ROG Ally and Nintendo Switch. (Supplied)
The Nintendo Switch was the obvious first choice to test on the display, but it wasn’t all smooth sailing.
Connecting the espressoDisplay directly to the Switch via USB-C to USB-C doesn’t provide sufficient power for the screen, but thankfully there’s a simple workaround. By connecting two USB-C cables, one for constant power and the other for your Nintendo Switch, you can start reaping the benifets of an external display for all your on-the-go gaming sessions.
Furthermore, this setup allows the display to charge the console simultaneously, ensuring extended gameplay without worrying about battery life.

The ASUS ROG Ally, which is essentially a handheld PC, makes the espressoDisplay an almost ideal companion.
Unlike the Nintendo Switch, the espressoDisplay can be powered directly from the ROG Ally, which is likely due to Ally’s power output being greater. This means you won’t need to power the display and the connected device at the same time, but in saying all of that… The battery life of the ASUS ROG isn’t the best, so I wouldn’t recommend running the display this way.
It’s important to note that using the display with different devices will drain the battery of the connected device faster. However, in most circumstances, I found myself within arms reach of a power point, allowing me to charge my device conveniently while using the display.
When gaming on a more powerful system such as a gaming PC or PS5, the output resolution is not 4K, and the display is limited to 60 frames per second. However, considering that 60fps is the standard for most console games, the framerate should not significantly impact your gaming experience.
Features
In addition to its sleek design and user-friendly nature, the espressoDisplay offers a few notable features that enhance the overall experience. Surprisingly, it includes an inbuilt speaker, although the sound quality is average. For an immersive gaming experience, I recommend pairing your connected device with a good set of wireless headphones.
The espressoDisplay has seamless automatic display rotation when turned on its side, adding to its convenience and versatility. Whether you’re a gamer or a professional on the go, this feature ensures that you can easily adapt the display to your needs.
One aspect that impressed me during my time with the espressoDisplay is its exceptional build quality. Never once did I feel that the display was fragile or susceptible to damage. It exudes strength and durability, my four-year-old daughter knocked it from a table and it hardly flinched.
There are similar displays on the market that offer similar specs at a more affordable price point, but the quality and build of the espressoDisplay is what sets it apart from the rest.
While I haven’t explored its drawing capabilities extensively, there are some talented people out there that swear by this display. I’ll leave the drawing to the experts, but I can say it’s an obvious choice when it comes to video editing.

The display’s precise touch sensitivity allows for seamless edits, allowing you to effortlessly manipulate clips across the timeline. To further enhance the experience, I applied the espressoCreator film to the top of the display. Similar to a screen protector for your phone or tablet, the creator film provides a paper-like feel while offering protection.
The touch functionality of the display is highly responsive, allowing for seamless navigation and interaction. The espressoPen further enhances the touch experience, boasting virtually no delay and precise control.
What’s in the box?
The espressoDisplay comes bundled with a couple of essentials, but most accessories you’ll need to buy separately.
In the box, you’ll find the following items:
-
1 x espressoDisplay 15 touch display
-
1 x espressoDisplay USB-C to USB-C cable
-
1 x Cleaning cloth
Pricing for the espressoDisplay starts at $529 AUD for the 13-inch display and goes up to $749 AUD for the 15-inch variant.
Yep, it’s not cheap… But you’re getting what you pay for.
Additionally, you have the option to purchase a protective case for the display, which retails for $69. The case not only provides added protection but also enhances the display’s durability, ensuring it can withstand the rigors of daily use.
Another noteworthy accessory is the magnetic stand, available for about $99 AUD. Crafted from aeronautical-grade aluminium, this stand requires no screws or assembly, effortlessly attaching to the back of the display and providing a sturdy and reliable support system. It’s worth noting that while the magnetic stand maintains its strength, it’s not as reliable while the esspressoDisplay’s case is attached.
The espressoFlow software, available as a free download, is productivity software that streamlines your workflow and allows for easy customisation of your multi-screen workspace. It enables you to create custom workspaces and launch them with a single click, effortlessly snap app windows into position across your screens, and save customised display settings for your external displays. Additionally, it enables touch functionality for Mac systems, further expanding its compatibility and functionality.
If you want to make sure your device is compatible with the display, there’s a handy tool on the espressoDisplay website.
It’s important to note that if you’re looking for a permanent secondary monitor for your office setup, there may be other options available. However, when it comes to portability, the espressoDisplay reigns supreme.
Whether you’re a gamer, a digital nomad, or a creative professional, this display offers an unparalleled experience and convenience, making it the ultimate choice for those on the move.
