What is Catan?

Catan, also known as Settlers of Catan, is a popular board game designed for 3-4 players (up to 6 with expansions). It was first published in 1995 and has since become a classic among board game enthusiasts.

In Catan, players take on the role of settlers on a newly discovered island, and must compete to establish and expand their settlements, build roads, and trade resources such as wood, brick, sheep, wheat, and ore.

The game is won by accumulating a certain number of victory points, which are earned by building settlements and cities, having the longest road or largest army, or achieving certain other objectives.

Catan has also ported to the digital world, with multiplayer video game versions available on consoles, mobile and PC. The Catan video game closely follows the rules and mechanics of the original board game, but with added features such as online multiplayer, customisable rules, and different game modes.

Players can compete against each other online, or against AI opponents of varying difficulty levels. The video game version also offers a tutorial mode to help new players learn the rules and strategies of the game.
