Review | Tiny Witch: ‘A Fun But Flawed Brew’ (Nintendo Switch 2)

Stir together one part Overcooked, a dash of Hogwarts Legacy — and a sprinkle of eye-of-newt for good measure — and you’ll brew a quirky little draught called Tiny Witch. The adorable cosy management game — developed by Creative Hand — that launched on PC back in 2023, is now riding its broomstick over to the Nintendo Switch.

At its best, the game blends time-management chaos with charming magical vibes; at its worst, it can feel like your console is struggling under a curse. But it’s fun, cute, and worth a deeper look.

Stirring Up Chaos: Gameplay & Controls

The basic setup is familiar: you’re racing against the clock to brew potions — tailored to customers needs — in a grid-based environment. The twist is that precision really matters here, and that’s where the Switch controls can feel a little lack-lustre. Using the Joy-Con sticks is a recipe for disaster as they’re far too twitchy for the kind of deliberate movement this game demands. But luckily using the D-pad makes the frantic gameplay feel manageable.

The Witch Is In: Unique Mechanics

I was enchanted with the apology system; if a customer starts losing patience, you can literally just apologise to them to buy yourself some grace. It adds an oddly human touch to the magical chaos, making you feel like all that IRL customer service experience has finally paid off.

Years in retail, and this is the first time it feels rewarding.

Hocus Focus: Accessibility & Design

One subtle but smart detail is the sound cue that plays when ingredients are ready. It’s not intrusive, but for players with low vision, it’s a thoughtful touch that could make all the difference in keeping up with the game’s tempo. The game could benefit from further features such as text size options or colourblind modes at a bare minimum.

Technical Bugs Haunt the Fun: Technical Issues

Unfortunately, the charming little broom in the corner of your kitchen is also the game’s worst enemy. Whenever you grab it to clean up hazards the frame rate plummets. Cleaning is essential, but the lag makes it almost unplayable. The end-of-day wrap-up screen is also a lag-fest.

For a game that has been out on PC for two years already, it’s disappointing to see that the Switch version had bugs like these.

Lag when trying to clean? That’s the universe telling you not to clean. I don’t make the rules, now put your feet up.

Conclusion: A Cauldron Half Full

It’s a fun but flawed game that could scratch your (oddly specific) potion-management itch, but only after some spells (patches) from the developers work their magic.

Tiny Witch is out today on Nintendo Switch.

Tiny Witch throws all the right ingredients into the cauldron: charming art, clever mechanics, and a magical spin on a beloved genre. However, lag terrible issues really spoil the brew.
