As part of the Warhammer Skulls event on Friday, Owlcat Games is gearing up to release Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy. Dark Heresy is a new cRPG focused on the Inquisition, basically the witch-hunters and executioners of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
Owlcat Games has a long history of creating deep, story-rich tactical RPGs. This goes back to Pathfinder: Kingmaker and, most recently Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader. Seeing them getting ready to tackle the monster hunters of the Warhammer universe is very cool.
If you didn’t play Rogue Trader, I sold it to my friends as a dark, gritty sci-fi version of Baldur’s Gate 3.
Check out the reveal trailer below:
Nobody ever suspects the Inquisition
Warhammer 40,00: Dark Heresy is set within the same war-torn universe as Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. While the previous title had you play as a Rogue Trader, basically free agents in the Imperium of Man, this time you’ll be stepping into the boots of one of the Inquisition.
Diving into the Owlcat Games announcement website, we get a bit more to chew on. As with Rogue Trader, you’ll gather a party of individuals from around the galaxy to help you on your quest. The website shows five party members to join your customisable Inquisitor. These include a Medicae doctor, a Catachan jungle fighter, a hulking Ogryn, a Kroot tracker and an Eldar Corsair.
It’s a motley crew of misfits, and most groups in The Imperium would frown on so many aliens. But the Inquisition are known for doing what they must to get the job done. And if Dark Heresy is anything like Rogue Trader, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to take the evil route.
There are other juicy tidbits in the trailer, including a good look at a Nightlords Chaos Space Marine — hopefully we’ll find out more about the overarching story soon.
Either way, with Siege Mode just announced for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, Warhammer fans are eating well.
