Video games releasing in April 2025

It’s April, the month we have a bit of tomfoolery, celebrate the ANZACs, and stuff our faces with copious amounts of chocolate. There’s also a bunch of video games releasing, and this month indie games are flying the flag; Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Promise Mascot Agency and Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree, are particularly exciting releases for me personally.

Xbox Game Studios’ next game South of Midnight also hits this month.

Here are our most anticipated games releasing in April 2025:

South of Midnight

South of Midnight is an upcoming dark, fairy tale journey through the Deep South by Compulsion Games and Xbox Game Studios. After previewing it last month, it’s left us eager to play more.

You follow the journey of Hazel, who discovers she’s a Weaver — someone who mends broken spirits and untangles the past. She’s searching for her missing mother, uncovering buried histories, and facing mythical creatures along the way. With it’s stop-motion art style and quirky southern world, it’s shaping up to be a hit.

South of Midnight is coming to Xbox Series X|S and PC on April 9th.

Blue Prince

Shifting rooms, dark secrets and puzzles — the Blue Prince will have you encapsulated and desperate for answers. The aim of the game is to is find Room 46, rumoured to be hidden in a mansion you’ve just inherited. It’s full of unique puzzle mechanics and rogue-like elements.

A recent demo gave us just a taste of what this game will bring and it’s one we’re certainly keeping an eye on. You can play Blue Prince on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on April 11th.

Promise Mascot Agency

If you like PS2-era open world mayhem, management sims, hardboiled yakuza, and bizarre monsters with psychological issues, then Promise Mascot Agency might just be for you.

You play as a disgraced yakuza, hiding out in a small town, tasked with re-opening the out-of-commission mascot agency. The foul-mouthed, ill-tempered Pinky helps you run the agency, recruiting and managing mascots (cute and quirky monsters) to do store openings and other promotional work.

You race around the town in your truck, helping citizens with their problems, and unlocking more events for your mascots to work. Unusual characters, like the emotionally fragile block of sentient tofu, and outlandish dialogue, are just a few reasons why I’m excited to play this quirky indie games.

Promise Mascot Agency bursts onto the scene on April 11th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree

Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree is an unforgiving 2.5D Action RPG set in a dark fantasy world. As an Inquisitor, you explore a vast interconnected world of Faelduum, full of horrors to overcome, monsters that will test your mettle, and secrets waiting to be uncovered. With six unique classes at your disposal, you’ll need to master both blade and magic to survive your journey.

Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree launches on the 11th of April for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is my most anticipated game this year, bar none. Its dark and mature world, flawed characters, a classic overworld map, and innovative battle system have me eagerly awaiting the release of the fantasy RPG.

The dynamic turn-based battle system, mixes in real-time combat mechanics like dodging, parrying and countering attacks. There’s a more active approach to offense too, with combos able to be chained rhythmically. As a fan of both classic JRPGs and action games, it sounds like a match made in heaven!

Set out on your expedition on April 24th, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launches onto PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Moroi

Dark fantasy action-adventure Moroi looks to be a psychological nightmare, with a twisting story, disturbing characters and absurd puzzles. The game draws inspiration from Romanian folklore, heavy metal, and the works of David Lynch (Twin Peaks, Mulholland Drive).

You play as an amnesiac inmate, traversing a hellscape prison to forcibly regain your freedom. Take on hordes of undead in hack-and-slash meets twin-stick-shooter combat, wielding cannons, power hammers and chainswords!

Moroi creeps its way onto PC on April 30th.
