Until Dawn is getting a big upgrade for the PlayStation 5

Horror fans were well looked after at this morning’s State of Play, with a remake of a classic horror game Until Dawn confirmed for PS5.

Until Dawn – Announce Trailer

Until Dawn, the star-studded choose-your-own-adventure horror game, came as an exciting addition to the line up, boasting a rebuild in Unreal Engine 5.

Characters, animations, VFX and environments are all being updated for the PlayStation 5, bringing the game to a new generation of gamers.

Sony claims care and passion has been taken for the much loved horror staple.

So, what can we expect?

Until Dawn is getting the buff and shine it so rightly deserves.

A plethora of advancements have been confirmed, which are set to take the game to the next level.

Now, players will be able to explore the world from a third-person perspective. Previously, the camera was almost locked off to a section of the room you were in, and subtly followed you through corridors and pathways.

This new perspective will allow us to peek behind the curtain of the original game, giving us a much more refined look at the world.

Environments and locations are also getting remade, and some new locations have been added!

Paired like a fine wine and cheese comes new interactions and collectables. Will this lead to even more secrets spilled about the fateful Blackwood Mountain? How about the cryptic Sanatorium?

I’m simply too excited to get my mits on the game and get exploring.

Just when you think Until Dawn has been through a big enough makeover, they add the lipstick of the gaming world: Score.

Much like lipstick, if not perfectly matched to its counterpart, the pairing can be left jarring and rough.

The soundtrack has been overhauled by Canadian horror music composer, Mark Korven. Korven is known for his musical touch on the horror film industry, and is bringing a brand new score to match the game’s fresh look. As exciting as this is, it’s also the only element of this announcement that has cracks. The score truly is the blood that rushes to the heart of a project. If the score lacks the depth and mood needed to carry the emotional weight of the plot, it’s a bust.

The biggest element of Until Dawn is the plot. A rebuild can improve the look and feel of a game, but touching the plot of a game can be a big no-no.

Fans can be very protective, and messing with the foundations of a game flips it into something unrecognisable. Thankfully, a promise has been made to keep the narrative of the original, with added emotional exploration.
