Here’s all the latest news from Sony Interactive Entertainment, starting with one of our most anticipated titles:

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth – February 29, 2024

Words can’t properly express the elation I felt watching this trailer. Seeing the different coloured chocobos actually performing different tasks, like climbing and flying, brought on an emotion that only a fellow OG FF7 fan would understand. Not to mention seeing the Golden Saucer and its various mini-games re-imagined beautifully.
I can already tell I’m going to sink hours upon hours into the chocobo racing alone!

The Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth trailer is absolutely packed with thrilling teases of what’s to come. Seeing Cait Sith in battle, that Vincent Valentine reveal, and of course the mystery of what my boy Zack Fair is doing in this alternate timeline!

2024 can’t come soon enough!

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 – October 20, 2023

Insomniac Games continue to knock it out of the park, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the latest in a long line of bangers.

We were given a fresh look at the game’s map, which has almost doubled in size compared to the previous game, with the additions of Queens and Brooklyn. Those web-wings continue to wow, making traversal quicker and more refined than ever. The sheer amount of new suits was also a standout, combined with the different colourways for each suit, there’ll be over 200 styles to try out!

Insomniac have really honed in on the power of the PS5, confirming the game will run at 4K 60fps with ray tracing. It’s refreshing news given the issues some of the bigger AAA games have had this year. The almost instant switching between Spider-Men, showing off the power of the SSD.

We also saw a web-full of spectacular suits for Peter and Miles, exclusive to the digital deluxe version of the game.

Helldivers 2 – February 8, 2024

Online co-op shooter Helldivers 2 got a release date; its action-packed trailer saw a squad of four exploring alien planets and taking down colossal insectoids.

The weapons system looks particularly interesting; that one player continuously loading ammo into another player’s rocket launcher was really neat to see.

I’m keen to jump into this with a few mates for some ‘popcorn-action’ fun.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – December 7, 2023

James Cameron’s Avatar is coming to life with Frontiers of Pandora. It’s the game no one was asking for, but it’s taking the story to new heights win this stunning open-world adventure.

Traverse incredible alien landscapes, befriend other clans and tame your own flying beast, the banshee. Become a Na’vi and fight against the RDA to protect the moon of Pandora.

Baby Steps – 2024

The game that opened the State of Play was a bit out of left field! It was just the right amount of sillyness to tickle my funny bone though. Baby Steps is a game about… Walking? Grappling hooks maybe…? We’ll have to wait and see.

One of the developers is Bennett Foddy, of Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy fame; which makes sense when you see the physics based ridiculousness present in Baby Steps.

Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord – October 26, 2023

The PS VR2 is getting a new game! Hooray. Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord is in development by nDream, the team behind Synapse, that dropped a few months ago. It’s also coming coming to the Meta Quest 2.

Solve puzzles and trap ghosts in this exciting multiplayer co-op adventure.

Check out the additional developer interview, diving into how the game makes the most out of the PlayStation VR2’s best features.

Ghostrunner 2 – October 26, 2023

Ghostrunner 2 has a demo out right now! The fast, in-your-face action game is set to release next month, as if October wasn’t already packed enough!

With new enemies, evolved combat and abilities; I may need to use that cyber-katana to carve out some time to play this one!

Resident Evil 4: Separate Ways – September 21, 2023

Resident Evil 4 story DLC, Separate Ways, follows the perspective of Ada Wong as she investigates a mysterious cult.
The events of this survival-horror adventure happen in parallel to those of RE4, giving more insight to the whole story.

Resident Evil 4 VR Mode is also set to release later this year. Experience the whole nail-biting narrative through your own eyes! Too scary for me thanks.

Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn DLC – November 9, 2023

Tales of Arise has been calling to me from my pile of shame for years now, and this cracking trailer for the Beyond the Dawn DLC didn’t help that one bit!

The art style and animation are just gorgeous; the combat, fast and energetic. I’m going to have to carve out some time for this at some stage… 2023 has been too packed with amazing games!

Foamstars – Early 2024

The Splatoon-like arena shooter, Foamstars is getting an open beta at the end of the month. There’ll be eight characters and two modes to try out, Smash the Star and Happy Bath Survival.

Hop in and try out the colourful and cheery shooter for yourself, those bubbly battles look like a lot of fun.

Honkai: Star Rail, the latest from Genshin Impact devs miHoYo, is coming to PlayStation next month. Embark on a galactic adventure in this space fantasy RPG, complete with thrilling turn-based combat and a gorgeous anime art style.

Roblox – October 10, 2023

If you’d asked me last week, whether Roblox was already on PlayStation, I would’ve bet at least ten pizzas that the answer was yes. Ofcourse, I would be out a whole lot of pepperoni, with the juggernaut game finally hitting PlayStation in October. Kids around the world rejoice.

PlayStation 5: Deep Earth Collection

PlayStation also announced three new PS5 colour options are in the works, adorning both dualsense controllers and PS5 console covers.

The Volcanic Red and Cobalt Blue hues will be released on November 3rd, but we’ll have to wait until January 26th for the Sterling Silver.

Are we living in golden age of gaming? You could certainly make that argument at the moment! No matter your genre, there seems to be a great game coming up in the near future.

It’s an exciting time ahead for gamers.
