Nintendo Switch Games For Under $5 | August 2024

Sometimes it seems to me like the Nintendo eShop just goes on and on. While scrolling through it the other day to look for a game or an amazing deal, I realised that there are quite a few gems in there for bargain prices — some for under $5.00!

After filtering through it all, I’ve compiled a definitive list (at least to my tastes) which I’m happy to share with you today.

Here’s a list of games on the Nintendo eShop I’d consider getting for $5 and under, listed in no particular order.

Note: All of the games listed below are in AUD.

Nuts – $4.50

A very interesting game where you investigate squirrels and where they stash their nuts. You have to systematically record the squirrels with cameras to find out where they’re going, but also, why are they being weird? I have yet to complete this game but it’s very relaxing, although a bit slow. Sale ends on September 9th.

ibb & obb – $2.25

I actually just bought this one for myself as I’m always on the lookout for fun and cute local co-op games to play with my husband. In ibb & obb, you play as two blobs trying to outsmart gravity to solve puzzles in a 2D platformer world. I’m not usually one for platformers but this looks promising and cute, and for $2! Sale ends on August 31st so get in quick.

Tools Up! – $1.50

For this price, I definitely recommend getting Tools Up!. It’s a co-op game about renovating which you can play with up to four players. Not too dissimilar to Overcooked, but with a renovation twist where you have to paint walls, reconstruct layouts, and clean up obstacles as required. Super fun! Spewing that I definitely didn’t pay this price for it. Sale ends on September 15th.

AER Memories of Old – $1.50

I’ve heard very good things about AER previously but haven’t played it myself. Thankfully, a few members of the QD team have and say it’s a good, fun and cosy time. In AER, you play as a bird and explore floating islands in the sky with puzzles and mysteries. I’m intrigued! Sale ends on September 13th.

KUUKIYOMI 3: Consider It More and More!! – Father to Son – $3.30

This game caught my eye as it’s about how considerate you can be and tests your social awareness. I’m all for gamifying learning, and also learning to be more considerate. It seems to involve Warioware type puzzle solving, which is fun to play alone or with someone. Sale ends on August 24th. Let me know if you try this one!

Please, Touch The Artwork – $1.50

One I haven’t played but have heard about where you have to recreate paintings and solve riddles behind art. Sale ends on September 1st.

Cat Quest – $3.10

This one was pretty high up on the popularity scale on the eShop and is not a game I’d usually play but have definitely heard a lot of praise about. Gives a sort of roguelike feel with some lovely animations. Cat Quest II is also for sale, although for $5.62 which is why it didn’t make it on the list — oh, and Cat Quest III has just released! So many cats. Sale ends on August 27th.

Arise: A Simple Story – Definitive Edition – $4.50

This is one that’s been sitting in my Steam Library – Arise is a story about loss from Piccolo Studio. This edition includes The Director’s Cut version of the game, along with an extra artbook and original soundtrack. Sale ends on September 15th.

The Hong Kong Massacre – $1.65

I don’t usually like top-down shooters but playing Hot Brass made me look again at this game. Also, I was born in HK so maybe I’m biased. In The Hong Kong Massacre, you play a former police detective looking for vengeance for his partner’s murder. The QD team has played it and some said it’s just like playing as John Wick! Sale ends on September 15th.

Creepy Tale – $3.74

And to continue (and end) on a depressing note, this cute 2D sort of platformer with sepia-style art caught my eye. Find your brother while walking through an ominous forest with strange creatures. Sale ends on September 7th.
