Monster Hunter Wilds: ‘A Glorious Food Journey’

With Monster Hunter Wilds just around the corner, many Hunters are sharpening their blades, ready to carve monsters for parts. But there’s another staple of the series — one this particular hunter couldn’t wait to sink their teeth into… FOOD!

We can’t live without it, and as the series has become known for, Monster Hunter Wilds continues the tradition — delivering yet another feast that does not disappoint.

Drooooooooool.

The usual task of cooking before leaving camp has improved this time around, allowing Hunters to cook more than just raw meat on the go. Now they can prepare meals on the road to gain a variety of buffs — no more traveling back to camp in the middle of a hunt!

Mmmm, so tasty! Now not the only thing for the road!

The Grub Hunt

Here’s a tale about how a hungry Hunter and his trusty companion Kurama journeyed to find ingredients to create the perfect dish!

It all started at base camp; the duo set out, fresh and eager, to hit the wilds for the required ingredients. For this particular dish, they needed fish, cheese, and herbs!

Ready and looking fab!

Together, they mounted their loyal Seikret Bull’s-eye (to avoid any copyright infringement) and rode like the wind!

Time to hunt for grub!

Hero Herb

The resourceful pair found herbs just a short distance away from base camp and felt rather pleased with themselves. Herbs give +5 Elemental Resistance and the Immunizer Meal skill!

Success! One down.

From here, they rode across the dunes to reach the Oasis Camp for some fish. Unfortunately, while setting up, they encountered a potential setback — a thirsty Chatacabra.

Don’t move a muscle…

…which proceeded to destroy their camp.

You moved a muscle

After learning its lesson, the Chatacabra ran off, and the pop-up camp construction crew quickly got everything back in order!

They work fast!

Fishy Friends And Cheesy Memories

It was time to fish. The Hunter cast the line, struggled a bit, and successfully caught their main prize! Huzzah! The fish bestows +50 Health, +150 Stamina and +4 Defence!

Only one more ingredient to go: the cheese.

Kunafa village cheese is as a delicacy. The pair only recently discovered it during a banquet held in their honour — a thank you for rescuing some villagers.

I wonder if I can get a banquet in MY honour.

They served flat bread drizzled in honey while they cut the cheese, shaped it into balls, and put it on sticks to melt slowly. Once the cheese melted to stringy perfection, they lathered the bread in it.

Seriously to DIE for.

After a brief reminiscing session our Hunter and Kurama headed over to do some trading for the gooey commodity. They had arrived and after a quick celebration of that fact, they headed inside.

We made it!

Upon entering the village, disaster struck! There was no cheese for trade.

Defeated, they were about to give up, until…

That looks like cheese — and a lot of it.

The Hunter spotted a big pot of cheese being prepared and reached the only logical conclusion: they were being lied to.

Therefore, fly kicking the polite village cheese maiden became the only course of action*. Afterall, the extra 20 minute buff duration and Defender Meal (lo) skill is important.

For the cheese! *You can’t actually fly kick the villagers…

Dinner’s Ready!

With cheese secured, they set out to find a nice secluded cave to cook in. This wasn’t to lay low, but for the ambiance (they swear). After setting up the portable BBQ station and preparing the ingredients it was time to cook!

It was well worth flying kicking innocent civilians.

The Hunter devoured everything, feeling well sated, leaving nothing for Kurama. Meanwhile, Kurama quietly plotted his revenge and Bull’s-eye tried to eat the Hunter’s arm.

Should have shared.

Luckily this is the story of just one quest for grub! The trio had many more food adventures in their future.

Some devilishly delicious examples below!

Fish and mushrooms, anyone?
Or how about Surf and Turf?
Remember that Chatacabra from the oasis?

And if you are vegetarian, there is options for you too (though if hunting monsters is your profession, I doubt you have an issue with meat).

Cabbage sauteed in butter?

Photomode and Gestures

As you can hopefully tell from the tale above, not only has Capcom delivered some delicious looking food, they’ve also provided amazing tools to tell stories (even embellished ones). The gestures and photomode really allows players to flex your creative muscles.

You can pose your hunter, Palico and Seikret in various positions, or perform an assortment of actions.

Celebrate a job well done with the cheer emote!

Across the course of the Wild’s story you unlock more gestures for the party to use — great for screenshots or communicating with fellow hunters.

Photomode, while limited in editing options, allows you to set the camera view distance, rotation and deep of field. You can also repose your hunter without leaving the mode. While basic, the addition of the gestures allows you ample choices in capturing the games beauty and charm.

As for the food, this is only the beginning.

We’ll look to share more of Monster Hunter Wild’s incredible looking food in the coming days and we’d like to invite you to share your snaps with us too!
