Limited Run Saves E3!? Gex, Jurassic Park and more set to return

Limited Run Games just put on a showcase for the ages, hilariously titled LRG3 2023 | Limited Run Saves E3.

Their showcase took us back to the glory days of retro gaming… 1995, and being the lover of retro games I am, this really had me hyped.

The show opened solidly with the Konami masterpiece, Castlevania Advance Collection, featuring four games spanning the Game Boy Advance and SNES eras. Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and (most excitingly for me) Castlevania: Dracula X.
For anyone on the fence about this collection, let me put this into perspective for you… Buying the original games individually could cost you anywhere between $900 and $2000!
So, not only is this collection full of incredible Castlevania titles, but just think of the money you’ll be saving!!!

A legendary shoot ’em up collection, Tiger-Heli: Toaplan Arcade Garage, was announced featuring a plethora of retro ports. It includes multiple platform versions of Tiger-Heli, Twin Cobra, Kyukyoku Tiger, Guardian and for the first time on home consoles Get Star.

We got the big announcement that Clock Tower will be releasing physically in English for the first time ever.

This point ‘n’ click survival horror gem has built quite the cult following since its release on the Super Famicom in Japan back in 1995, and has been a long time coming for survival horror fans.

The showcase showed no signs of slowing down, announcing a physical version of Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition from 1995, the golden age of PC shooters.

Re-releases of Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron and Colossal Cave were all revealed.

Limited Run Games also teased that, with the help of the MIX, they‘re working on two unannounced games, based on popular 90’s cartoons.
I’m very excited to find out what those could be!

One announcement that really surprised me was Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore, a spiritual successor to the critically derided Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon and Link: The Faces of Evil.
From what was shown, the game remains faithful to the art style, gameplay and animated cutscenes of it’s predecessors.
The big difference being, that the game looks to run beautifully and has gorgeous, animated backgrounds to match. I’m truly excited for this one.

We also got the pleasure of seeing Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution announced. Production on the game actually started way back in 2002 but was never released. Fast forward 21 years and the Shantae games now have a huge following, so it’s the perfect time to finally release this game.

The showcase ended with three HUGE announcements.

The Jurassic Park Collection, celebrating the 30th anniversary, contains both Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park Part 2: The Chaos Continues, in all their released formats including Game Boy, NES & SNES.

Tomba! (Tombi! here in Australia) is getting the port treatment and I couldn’t be happier. Tomba! is an incredibly under-rated and almost unknown game from the PlayStation 1 era.
A beautifully made 2D platformer full of bright colours, multiple depth layers and pigs!

Before now, if you wanted to play Tomba!, it was incredibly expensive to get your hands on (legally), so this port will give a whole new generation of gamers a chance to experience the masterpiece for themselves!

Gex is being reborn for a new generation, with the Gex Trilogy coming to all major platforms.
The trilogy will include the first three Gex games, released between 1995 – 1999: Gex, Gex: Enter The Gecko and Gex: Deep Cover Gecko.
The games are full of witty childish humour that we all loved from the era, and are incredible amounts of fun!
I can’t wait for a new group of gamers to discover these amazing games.

There was also a bunch of other ports, physical editions and special editions announced:

So what do you think? Did Limited Run Games save E3? For me they sure did. This was a phenomenal showcase packed full of some incredibly nostalgic titles, most of which are very unknown and under appreciated.
