The Future Games Show: Spring Showcase happened last Friday, featuring a bunch of games you’ll want to add to your wishlist.
From a pizza-starved possum and theme park sim to a zero-gravity multiplayer shooter and Blade Runner-like VR world – there was no shortage of variety.
Check out all the highlights below
PIZZA POSSUM
This poor little critter just wants to EAT! I can relate buddy.
Pizza Possum is an adorable stealth game that’ll have you stealing snacks whilst avoiding the fuzz! Distract dog patrols with smoke bombs, punching gloves, squeaky toys and more!
And they said the perfect game didn’t exist.
Pizza Possum is coming soon to PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PC.
WITCHFIRE
We got a gameplay presentation for Witchfire, a dark fantasy rogue-lite shooter.
Combat looks intense and action-packed, using forbidden pagan magic combined with an arsenal of weapons to take down demonic enemies in your path.
The cursed bell spell was particularly interesting. After summoning a phantom bell above the battlefield, it can be rung multiple times by shooting it, each toll sends out shockwaves that stun enemies.
Not sure I’ve ever seen anything quite like it!
Witchfire is planned to release into early access on the Epic Games Store sometime soon.
Console versions will be coming at a later date.
HYENAS
Hyenas, the hero-based, multiplayer extraction shooter got a gameplay presentation and wowee do the zero gravity shootouts look f**king cool!
You’ll need to form a crew of three Hyenas, find and break into secured vaults, load up on merch and then make your escape.
Standing in your way though are a host of security clones and four other competing raiding crews.
With bonkers weaponry like foam guns, pyro-discs, sticky rockets and cat bombs (!), combat sounds fun, frantic and furious!
The trailer also showed off a new playable character, Hero-Ki. Decked out in a sonic-inspired space-suit, Hero-ki uses his cosplay roots to disguise himself as security forces or even other players. He looks like the kind of goofball that’ll be a blast to play!
Hyenas is coming soon to PlayStation, Xbox and PC.
VIEWFINDER
Viewfinder continues to break my brain whenever I see gameplay in action, the reality-shifting puzzler uses perspective in some phenomenal ways.
I especially love how the colour palette/art style of the world can change depending on the style of photo/painting/sketch you use when changing the world around you.
“Challenge perception, redefine reality, and reshape the world around you with an instant camera.”
Also… You can pet the cat.
I’m looking forward to having my brain shattered into a million tiny pieces when Viewfinder releases on PS5 and PC later this year.
DAVE THE DIVER
With colourful, vibrant pixel art, Dave the Diver never fails to catch my eye.
The adventure RPG sees you exploring the mysterious depths of the ‘Blue Hole’ by day, collecting fresh ingredients while avoiding being eaten yourself!
By night, the game shifts into a sushi restaurant management sim, using the ingredients you caught during the day.
I’m excited to dive into this one.
Dave the Diver is launching out of Steam early access in June. A Nintendo Switch version is also in the works.
LOW-FI VR
With it’s flying cars, dancing holo-girls, androids and dystopian neon dripped city; Low-Fi clearly takes heavy inspiration from the Blade Runner franchise.
Hell, it even has a giant neon ‘Atari’ logo straight out of Blade Runner 2049.
The game is open-world and the story is player-driven, meaning you decide where you wan to go. Be it gambling at the casino, chilling at the arcade or patrolling the skies handing out tickets.
With all that colourful neon, the game looks to be a visual feast, I can only imagine what it looks like in VR!
Low-Fi is coming soon to PS VR2, Oculus Rift, Valve Index and HTC Vive.
THE LAST CASE OF BENEDICT FOX
In The Last Case of Benedict Fox you play as the titular character, a paranormal detective bound to a demon companion.
“Dive into a twisted world of secret organisations, forbidden rituals and cold-blooded murders”
Dig through the memories of the recently deceased to search for clues, battle demons and solve intricate puzzles.
The metroidvania has a wonderful art-style, the world oozing Lovecraftian detail. Combat looks fast and frenetic with a focus on up close melee attacks and demonic powers.
The Last Case of Benedict Fox releases on April 27 for Xbox and PC.
PARK BEYOND
Park Beyond is a construction management sim where you can build the theme park of your dreams! With a mastermind R&D team to help you out, even boring things like physics and gravity won’t hold you back!
Seriously though, if I saw some of those insane rides in real life I would turn heel and run!
You can even design your own rides in ‘Sandbox Mode’ with dozens of wacky modules, resulting in thousands of combinations.
The dope Pac-Man themed, preorder bonus was shown off (move over Super Nintendo World!) as well as the ‘Zombeyond’ DLC which looks like a giant outdoor haunted house!
Park Beyond has a closed beta May 9th and will release June 16th for PlayStation, Xbox and PC
