Sony has unveiled its long-rumoured slim PlayStation 5 model. But how much will it cost, how small is it and what new features does it have? Let’s break it down.
The PS5 slim offers a new look for the much-loved console.
Well, it’s not officially named the “slim”, but with its new volume reduction of 30%, we can assume this is the vibe Sony is going for.

It will utilise the same tech as the current model, so don’t expect any performance upgrades. But it does come with a storage boost. The new console will feature a 1TB SSD, allowing space for even the largest of games — Spider-Man 2, anyone?

There’s no longer a digital-only console, the PS5 will now be convertible at any point. The disc drive can be purchased separately and attached.
The aesthetics have taken a fresh look with the console having four separate panels; the top part taking on a glossy white style while the bottom remains a matte finish.
A horizontal stand is also included, but if you’re someone who likes to display your PlayStation 5 upright then that will cost you an extra buck. The vertical stand is compatible with every PS5 model.

I can see those with restricted space find this new addition appealing, as the console can fit into a smaller gaming setup like bedrooms or studies.
Dare I say, I’d rather have a PS5 Pro —controversial at best.
On the price point, we haven’t had any confirmation here… But we can imagine it’ll be a similar range to what we’re currently paying: $700 – $800 (inclusive of the disc drive).
The downsized console is to be released in the US in November, and no doubt hitting our shores shortly after.
All the technical stuff is listed on the PlayStation Blog, but when we know more we’ll be sure to shout out.
