Erika Ishii (Apex Legends, Critical Role) is the Ghost of Yotei

As part of September’s State of Play, Sucker Punch Productions unveiled their follow-up to the hit Samurai/Shinobi adventure Ghost of Tsushima.

Instead of directly following the story of Jin Sakai from the first game, the team has shared a look at an all-new story coming out in 2025 for PlayStation 5. This new game centres around a protagonist named Atsu, revealed online as acted by the incredible Erika Ishii.

You’d almost certainly recognise Erika’s voice from their video game work in Apex Legends, Destiny 2, or Stray Gods. Ishii is also in the upcoming Bioware game Dragon Age: Veilguard. But for me, Erika is best known for their roleplay work on Critical Role, Dimension 20, and most recently, the groundbreaking audio roleplaying podcast Worlds Beyond Number.

Looking to the new game, the trailer shows a much later part of Japan’s history, set in 1603 – some 400 years after Jin Sakai’s adventures in Ghost of Tsushima. The trailer shows snowy tundras, rolling grasslands and a recurring wolf motif. Here’s hoping we have an adorable wolf companion for Atsu’s adventure.

Geographically, Mount Yotei is an inactive volcano on the northern island of Japan, which ties into the first line of the trailer “We are beyond the edge of Japan”. Though Mount Yotei does look strikingly similar to Mount Fuji, this mountain is beyond the northern reaches of the map from Ghost of Tsushima, implying the new game might take place entirely on the island of Hokkaido.
