AFL 23 has been delayed to May 4, only a week before its original planned release date.
The AFL announced in a tweet that the delay was due to physical copies for one console platform not yet arriving in Australia for its intended release on April 13, and in order to provide ‘equity and fairness’ for all customers, the game was pushed back by three weeks.

Ross Symons, CEO of AFL 23 developer Big Ant Studios, tweeted that they will use the delay to show more gameplay and allow fans to demo the game in stores before it comes out.

In response to questions about why the game can’t be released digitally on the original date, the BigAntStudios account posted on the popular Aussie Rules forum BigFooty, “There is no way we would let down our retail partners, and they would, quite rightly, cancel their orders. It’s not like we could sell those disks anywhere else in the world.”
The news is a disappointing blow with the game’s original launch coinciding with the AFL’s highly anticipated Gather Round, taking place in South Australia from April 13 to 16.
Quest Daily previewed the game at the launch event last month. You can read more about it HERE.
Footy fans can now expect AFL 23 on May 4 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
