PlayStation have announced that ‘Accessibility Tags’ will be rolling out across the PlayStation store on PS5 this week.
For games that provide them, the tags will allow gamers to access the list of accessibility features present, so they’ll be able to make more informed purchases.
While browsing the PlayStation store, pressing ‘Triangle’ will bring up a comprehensive index of accessibility features (if the game supports the tags).
These features are grouped under tabs for ease of access.
-
Visual accessibility features, such as clear text, large text, color alternatives, audio cues and directional audio indicators.
-
Audio features, such as volume controls, mono audio, screen reader and visual cue alternatives.
-
Subtitle and caption options, including subtitle size, clear captions, and large captions.
-
Control options, including button remapping, thumbstick sensitivity, and ability to play without button holds, rapid button presses or motion control.
-
Gameplay options, such as difficulty settings, skippable puzzles, simplified quick time events, and game speed.
-
Online communication options, such as text or voice chat transcription and ping communication.
While the feature is only rolling out on the PS5 for now, Accessibility Tags will be available for both PS5 and PS4 game versions on the store; where both versions of a game are available, you’ll be able to switch between the two options to compare their accessibility features.
PlayStation is collaborating with developers to incorporate this feature into their game pages on PS5, so hopefully we see the majority of games updated with the tags in the future.
At launch, tags will be available for:
Days Gone, Death Stranding Director’s Cut, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, God of War, God of War Ragnarök, Gran Turismo 7, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Returnal.

PlayStation has been at the forefront of accessibility within games for a while.
The Last of Us and God of War series, held high as the gold standard. With their recent announcement of Project Leonardo, a highly customizable accessibility controller kit and now these new Accessibility Tags for the PS5 store, PlayStation seem committed to making their platform as inclusive as possible for all gamers.
We love to see it.
