Review | Turtle Beach Stealth Pro (PlayStation)

When it comes to high-end gaming headphones very few tick all the boxes, but every so often a pair comes along that truly shines — introducing the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro

Long known for its consistent quality, Turtle Beach is a brand almost synonymous with gaming. With almost 20 years of headphones under their belt… They know their stuff.

Other brands hold similar titles, with SteelSeries being on top for years now, very few come close to knocking them from their perch. Sony’s Inzone line attempted high-end audio quality for gaming but didn’t quite hit the mark.

Now, Turtle Beach has come back with a vengeance, really stepping up to the competition.

Turtle Beach’s latest high-end gaming headphones, the Stealth Pro, offer an impressive audio experience and a range of features that make it a strong contender in its price range. Retailing for about $599, you can expect to get what you pay for in this case.

Right out of the box, the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro proves to be user-friendly and offers a hassle-free set up. The headphones boast a sleek design that exudes a premium feel. Although they may appear slightly bulky on the ears, the overall comfort provided by the memory foam over-ear cups covered in soft faux leather is exceptional.

Gamers can enjoy extended gaming sessions without too much discomfort.

Does the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro have a good battery?

One of the standout features of the Stealth Pro is its battery life – there’s two interchangeable batteries! Each battery lasts over 12 hours, allowing gamers to delve into their favourite games without worrying about running out of power. A cool little battery charging dock is included in the box, ensuring that uninterrupted gaming sessions are always within reach.

When the boom mic is attached, changing the battery is a slight fuss. You have to make sure you disconnect it or move it to the side at the right angle to open the battery compartment.

The version of the Stealth Pro I’ve been using is designed specifically for the PlayStation 5, which offers seamless compatibility with the console. But that’s not to say it won’t work with other consoles like the Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo – even PC. But there is an Xbox-specific version of the Stealth Pro should you be so inclined.

The setup process is straightforward, and within moments, I was immersing myself into the world of Final Fantasy XVI.

Notably, the Stealth Pro supports spatial audio and 3D audio, delivering an enhanced sense of depth and realism to the gameplay, heightening the overall gaming immersion.

Does the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro utilise an app?

To unlock the full potential of the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro, I’d recommend downloading the Turtle Beach app. The app boasts a user-friendly interface and offers a plethora of customisation options, allowing gamers to fine-tune their audio settings to suit their preferences. There’s also dedicated software for PC.

From adjustable equalizer presets to personalised audio profiles tailored to different gaming genres, the app provides the means to optimize the audio experience to individual tastes. The app is a true user-friendly experience.

Is the microphone quality and wireless connection any good?

During online gaming sessions, the included boom microphone proves its worth. It captures clear and accurate voice communication, ensuring seamless and effective collaboration with teammates. Whether strategising in a multiplayer firefight or engaging in friendly banter, the Stealth Pro’s microphone delivers excellent voice clarity.

The Turtle Beach Stealth Pro ensures a reliable wireless connection, eliminating the need for cumbersome wires that can impede gaming freedom. Even when testing the limits by walking to another room, the Stealth Pro maintained its connection.

The Stealth Pro also features dual Bluetooth connectivity, meaning you can have your phone (or another Bluetooth device) connected to the headphones and your PlayStation at the same time. You’ll never need to worry about missing a phone call again! But let’s be real… If you’re 100 kills deep in Warzone you probably don’t want the interruption.

How durable is the Stealth Pro and can you wear glasses with it comfortably?

As a full-time glasses wearer, the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro offers exceptional comfort. The headset’s design takes into consideration the needs of eyeglass wearers, ensuring that no discomfort or pressure is felt, even during extended gaming sessions. The combination of well-padded ear cups and thoughtful design elements accommodates glasses without causing any discomfort or compromising the overall fit.

In fact, many of Turtle Beach’s headphones are glasses-friendly, with the company patenting technology specifically for those with four eyes.

The Turtle Beach Stealth Pro impresses with its robust build quality. These headphones are constructed from high-quality materials that withstand the demands of intense gaming sessions. I could flex the headband without fear of it snapping, and it can be adjusted, providing a comfortable fit for gamers of various head sizes. The Stealth Pro’s durability ensures that it can withstand hundreds of RPG hours for many years to come.

I did find the buttons on the headphones a little awkward to navigate at times and turning the outer ear cup to increase the volume didn’t feel quite right.

Thankfully you can configure the right earcup’s main button and wheel to perform different tasks, such as adjusting the volume or setting the audio mix.

Is the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro worth the price?

Turtle Beach’s Stealth Pro stands as a remarkable pair of gaming headphones, delivering supreme audio quality and long-lasting comfort. With its user-friendly setup, impressive battery life, and customisable features through the accompanying app, the Stealth Pro ensures an immersive and personalised gaming experience.

Compared to earlier Turtle Beach headsets, this one looks incredible. It’s a modern look that wouldn’t be out of place on the morning commute.
