When it comes to a controller, every gamer has their preferred style. Some are perfectly happy with the default options that PlayStation and Xbox offer, while others might look for something more.
Third-party controllers offer a wide range of customisation, aesthetics, and accessibility to the market — often overlooked by the big players. What I look for in a controller is comfort, power, and aesthetics. Enter the PowerA FUSION Pro Wireless Controller — picking it up and putting it to the test exceeded all my expectations.
Let’s unpack it!
Unboxing products has got to be up there as one of my favourite and most satisfying things. Opening up the FUSION Pro for the first time led to a few surprises, like a protective hard case! This was great to see and I love having the option of packing away my controller after use.
You will also receive a 10ft USB-C cable, a wireless USB adaptor and a slick display stand that doubles as a charger.

Aesthetic and Build
Once I turned on the FUSION Pro, I was mesmerised by the RGB design. The abstract pattern makes up most of the face of the controller and can be fully customised to your liking. This also includes six light modes: Pulse, Breathe, Solid, Cycle, Wave, and Reactive. There is the option to turn off the RGB however if you want it to stay off, you may want to consider other options as the RGB is a standout feature.
The controller feels great and has a solid build. With a matte texture and rubberised grips, it doesn’t feel slippery during those long, sweaty gaming sessions. I found the controller to be lightweight and fit comfortably in my hands.
Connection and Compatibility
The FUSION Pro is compatible with the Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. The controller features a dedicated PowerA Gamer HQ PC app to customise the controller further. The software is free to use and, once connected, is very user-friendly.
The controller offers low-latency connectivity with the included wireless USB adaptor. I tested this with a variety of games — it kept up with my adventures in Baldur’s Gate 3 and was quick to aim in Fortnite.
The battery life is impressive, and other brands should take note. The controller offers 30 hours of use on a single charge, and even after a few solid gaming sessions throughout the week, I didn’t need to recharge it. I also love the convenient charging options that are included, like the display stand and the magnetic cable. The battery life can be prolonged if you turn off the RGB.

Customisation
The FUSION Pro Controller is designed for an enhanced gaming experience, offering a fantastic range of customisation options to suit your personal preference. The thumbsticks feature “Quick-Twist” customisation allowing you to change the height to three different settings simply and easily. This was perfect for me as my hands are quite small, so I had fewer thumb adjusting moments whilst playing. To enhance your precision, the triggers can be customised to three different depth settings which is another excellent feature for FPS gamers.
The controller can be further customised with rumble options, audio adjustments, dead zones all through the PowerA Gamer HQ application. If you share your controller like I do, you can map your customisation to a profile that can be easily switched. Just keep in mind that this doesn’t include any physical customisation like the Quick-Twist thumbsticks.

Is the PowerA Fusion Pro Wireless worth buying?
If you are looking for a quality controller with great customisation features and an enhanced gaming experience then the PowerA FUSION Pro Wireless Controller will do just that. Especially as the customisation is internal or physically equipped to the controller so there are no daunting removable parts! With its generous battery life and comfortable, ergonomic design it is an excellent option when looking at third-party controllers. That said, if you’re not a fan of RGB, this one is not going to be for you.
