Cast n Chill is a serene little fishing sim that knows exactly what it wants to be, and absolutely nails the vibe. No stress. No enemies. No world-ending threats. Just you, a pixelated fishing rod, and the gentle ripple of water under a painted sky. It’s a game that doesn’t need to shout to be heard.

Breath in, Breath out…
Visually, it’s stunning in an understated way. The pixel art and simplicity reminds me of Kingdom Two Crowns, with that same delicate blend of moody skies and painterly backgrounds that make you want to screenshot every frame. The world feels soft, distant, and peaceful, like a memory you’re not quite sure you lived.

You drift along in a little boat, with your dog (no cats here, sorry folks), cast a line, and… That’s it. You can play the entire game using just a mouse and left click, or with simple keyboard controls.

There’s no rush to catch every fish or unlock every upgrade. The progression is feather-light, but that’s the point. This isn’t a game that rewards min-maxing — it rewards breathing. Pausing. Taking a moment.
There are fish, sure, and some chill little goals if you want them, such as unlocking the next fishing hole, or boat. However Cast n Chill is more about relaxing than hitting that next goal. It’s a playable exhale. The kind of game you boot up after a long day, when your brain is too cooked for boss fights or lore dumps. Or when the real world is too much.

It’ll even play itself whilst you watch TV (or scroll your favourite gaming news outlet) with its idle mode. Although you’ll earn less money this way because the game halves your income for catches..
Verdict
Cast n Chill is pure vibes. Gorgeous, minimal, and quietly addictive. It’s not very deep, but it doesn’t need to be. It’s calm, it’s beautiful, and it knows exactly what it’s doing.
Sometimes, the best games are the ones that ask nothing of you at all. At around $20 AUD it’s cheaper than a movie ticket and probably more relaxing.
Cast n Chill is available now via Steam on PC.
