Video games releasing in November 2024

It’s that time of year where video game releases start to wind down, and festive cheer starts to assault all five senses. With only a few major releases set between now and the new year, it’s a good time to work on our shamefully large backlogs of games.

The standout video games for November include a couple of family-friendly titles in Mario & Luigi: Brothership and LEGO Horizon Adventures, as well as the not-so-family-friendly body-horror action game Slitterhead.

Here are our most anticipated games releasing in November 2024.

Metal Slug Tactics

Including remakes, there’s been about eighteen Metal Slug titles over the years, the first dating all the way back to 1996. Now, the latest entry to the series, Metal Slug Tactics, is shaking things up with RPG and roguelike elements, mixed through an isometric world.

It offers a similar pixel-art style to previous games in the series, but mixes up the formula with its turn-based combat; no real time running and gunning here! Players will load out, assemble a team of soldiers, storm the battlefield and take on an unpredictable rebel army.

With 110 hand-crafted maps, 20 different mission types, 36 different weapons, 176 weapon mods, and 9 iconic Metal Slug characters to choose from; the game has ‘replayability’ written all over it!

Metal Slug Tactics coming to PlayStation and Xbox consoles, Nintendo Switch and PC on November 6th.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership

It’s been almost ten years since the last entry into the Mario & Luigi franchise, but Mario & Luigi: Brothership is here to break the drought. The Mario Bros. are back for a high seas adventure, exploring the fractured world of Concordia to make the islands whole once more.

Plot your own course around the ocean, before firing yourself out of the ship’s cannon onto exotic locales like Merrygo Island, a carnival themed destination! There’s locals to meet, puzzles to solve, and baddies to bash in dynamic turn-based combat.

The Brothership sails onto Nintendo Switch on the 7th of November.

Slitterhead

Explore the neon-lit pleasure district of Kowlong in the grotesque body-horror, action-adventure Slitterhead. In the debut game from Bokeh Game Studio, you play as the ‘Hyoki’, a formless, memory-less entity that can jump between host bodies. Founder Keiichirō Toyama is best known for his work on Silent Hill and Gravity Rush, and you can see the DNA of those games shining through.

The parasite you control has but one driving instinct, to exterminate the monstrous slitterheads. Hyoki can burn through the life force of its host body to manifest weapons made of blood; when its host is critically injured, it can jump out and find a different one to occupy!

Slitterhead creeps onto PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on November 9th.

LEGO Horizon Adventures

Sure, the recent release of the Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster may look absolutely stunning, with more detail than ever… But what about the fans who wanted LESS detail? Well, LEGO Horizon Adventures is here to say ‘Hold my beer’. Guerilla Games and Studio Gobo have taken the much loved Horizon Zero Dawn and LEGO-fied it for a completely new experience.

Jokes aside, the game is gorgeous in its own right, with the world looking like it was assembled out of real life LEGO pieces. The incredible design combined with impeccable lighting brings the blocky-world to life. The new overhead camera angle gives combat encounters a fun twist and, just like in the main Horizon games, there’s the ability to highlight an enemy’s weak points and knock off machine parts with your bow.

With plenty of silly outfits and the ability to customise your home base with wacky objects like Ferris wheels and hot dog carts, the game is taking a more comedic and family-friendly approach to the world of Horizon. I can’t wait to play this in local co-op with my five-year-old!

LEGO Horizon Adventures is set to hit the PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC on November 14th.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is a *checks notes* remake of the beloved classic JRPG Dragon Quest III. The new iteration enhances everything from camera angles to lighting and visual effects while maintaining its vintage appeal.

You play as a young hero setting out on your sixteenth birthday to defeat an evil king and save the world. Recruit your party from a variety of characters, explore the beloved fantasy world, and engage in strategic turn-based battles against the classic monsters that made the series famous.

Dragon Quest III is actually a prequel to Dragon Quest I & II, which have their own HD-2D remake set to release sometime next year.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake launches on November 15th for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
