Video games releasing in July 2024

July is upon us and it’s another month mostly carried by indie games. Flock, SCHiM and Anger Foot are set to impress, but it’s Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus that I’ve been dreaming of getting my hands on!

Also of note, PlayStation’s arena-shooter Concord has an early-access beta from July 12th to 14th, and an open beta from July 18th to 21st. Look out for our beta impressions for that one!

Here are our most anticipated July games:

Zenless Zone Zero

From the developers of the mega blockbuster hit Genshin Impact comes action RPG Zenless Zone Zero. The majority of humanity has been wiped out by Hollows, supernatural disasters that leave dimensional portals in their wake. Formidable monsters known as Ethereals roam within those portals.

Pick your squad members, balancing strengths and abilities, and head into the hollows to take on powerful foes and collect priceless treasures. With stunning anime-style visuals and animation; you’ll be dodging, parrying and unleashing powerful attacks in action-packed combat.

Sticking to a similar free-to-play model as Genshin, there will be luck-based gacha mechanics to pull new characters and items. Zenless Zone Zero is dropping onto PS5, PC and mobile on July 4th.

Anger Foot

With a stronger left boot than Messi, gunplay that rivals John Wick, and entrances that put the Kool-Aid Man to shame, Anger Foot looks like pure unadulterated carnage! The fast-paced, in-your-face, super-bass gameplay of this first-person kicker will have you shooting and stomping your way through the gangsters of ‘Shit City’.

Equip your hands with an arsenal of weapons and your feet with a smorgasbord of sneakers, that grant absurd powers-ups to the world’s deadliest feet. There’ll be plenty of secrets to discover and unlockables to… Unlock, that encourage you to replay levels in new and creative ways.

Anger Foot forcefully bursts onto PC on the 12th of July.

Flock

Flock is a vibrant, colour-bomb of an adventure game that puts you in control of a flying shepherd, tending your flock of cute and adorable hover-sheep. Shearing your herd and collecting the wool will allow you to craft cosmetics such as hats and socks!

The multiplayer co-op sandbox looks to be a casual and relaxing experience to explore, and the very definition of a cosy game.

Flock is flying onto PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on July 17th.

Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus

Bō: Path of the Teal Lotus is a super stylish metroidvania, dripping in Japanese folklore, with fast and fluid movement and a beautiful hand-drawn art style, reminiscent of a Nihonga painting.

As Bō, a celestial blossom, you’ll bounce and glide around an interconnected world full of charming Yōkai, help them with their problems or simply chat over a cup of tea. With your upgradable bō staff, mystical abilities, and spellcasting daruma dolls, you’ll take on a variety of mythical enemies and gargantuan bosses.

launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch on July 18th.

SCHiM

Were you ever driving in the car as a kid and imagining a little creature running along side you, parkouring along fences and over letter boxes? Or when you’re walking on tiles and you NEED to avoid the cracks? That’s the sort of vibes I get from SCHiM, jumping from shadow to shadow to make your way around the world.

You play as a schim, a spirit that has been separated from its host. Navigate the minimalist and abstract world, hopping between the shadows of hundreds of unique objects, and find your way to reuniting with your host body.

SCHiM is out on July 18th for PC and Consoles

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess

Developed by Capcom, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is a new action-strategy game, inspired by the Shinto culture of Japan. Its blend of melee combat and tower defense elements make for a unique mix.

Game-play revolves around a distinctive day/night cycle. You’ll need to plan your defense during the day, repairing and upgrading units where needed. At night you must defend against the seethe, and protect the maiden of the mountain as she performs her purification ritual.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess releases on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on July 19th. It will also be available day one on Gamepass.
