Tekken director reveals fresh details for upcoming game

The Godfather of Tekken, Katsuhiro Harada has been tweeting up a storm lately and has revealed a bunch of new tidbits about the upcoming Tekken 8.

Replying to a tweet asking how many characters Tekken 8 will launch with, Harada-san replied “I think it’s a lot more than Capcom-san”

Assuming he’s referencing Street Fighter 6 here, which has a confirmed launch roster of 18 characters, we can expect ‘a lot more’ than that for the next Tekken!

Harada-san indicated there could be a Tekken 8 beta test available at some point.

“We are still only doing closed alpha testing at each event, so please wait for the beta,” he tweeted.

Whether it will be an public beta or tied to pre-orders is yet to be seen.

Fans also asked Harada-san about crossplay for Tekken 8, and he all but confirmed it.

“Crossplay? Of course I will,” he said.

The developer says there’s been a push for crossplay on previous generations for years.

As for rolled back netcode, “Already installed it, and it already has what you want,” Harada-san said.

Cross-play and rolled back netcode were already expected for this generation of fighting games, but it’s still great to get confirmation.

There is currently no release date for Tekken 8.
