Wizards of the Coast has given us our first real taste of Magic: The Gathering’s upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender crossover.
Hold onto your cabbages — it is bringing flying bison, magic mushrooms and new elemental mechanics!
Master of Elements
Wizards aren’t holding back, with our beloved 112-year-old Avatar Aang revealed as an absolute banger — Combustion Man-style.

Master the elements and use all four bending techniques in a turn — drawing a card after each elemental move — to transform Avatar Aang into Aang, Master of Elements.
“When we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change.” – Aang
Once transformed, spells you cast cost one of each coloured mana less to cast. There’s no restriction on this cost reduction, applying only to coloured mana. So, once in this form, any spell with 5 or less converted mana cost is now free. To all your opponents… that’s rough buddy.
Power of the Four Nations
The set also introduces four new mechanics — Airbending, Waterbending, Earthbending, and Firebending — each tied to a major character.

- Appa, Steadfast Guardian uses Airbending to exile and recast permanents.
- Katara, Water Tribe’s Hope taps into Waterbending to turn creatures and artifacts into mana.
- Toph, the First Metalbender animates lands with Earthbending.
- Fire Lord Zuko brings Firebending, generating red mana when attacking.
Appa-lutely gorgeous cards
On the collectible side, the standout is a raised foil borderless Avatar Aang illustrated by series co-creator Bryan Konietzko.
Other highlights include neon-ink borderless battle poses for characters like Zuko and Katara, mythic borderless double-faced sagas, sketch-style “field notes” cards, elemental-themed frames.
Then my personal favourites: a run of full-art Appa basic lands.

Avatar Product Lineup
The product line for Avatar: The Last Airbender is bursting. Play, Collector and Jumpstart booster packs, traditional Bundle, Commander Bundle, Scene Box, Beginner Box and of course, the Pre Release pack.

Commander Decks are seemingly missing from the current lineup, but we’ll keep an eye on it.
There’s the new Commander’s Bundle — which comes with 9 play boosters and 5 promo cards — but no specific commander card.
Read all the detail about the product lineup on the Magic the Gathering website. Pricing is yet to be revealed.
How long do we have to wait?
We still have a bit of wait before we can get our hands on these cards. Before we see Avatar, Spider-Man will be web-swinging into local game stores in late September.
Avatar: The Last Airbender will launch November 21st this year.
We’ll see plenty more cards revealed prior to then — can’t wait!
