As part of February’s PlayStation State of Play, the Monster Hunter development team debuted a new launch trailer for Wilds that takes a closer look at many of the monsters coming to the game in just a few short weeks.
Alongside post launch content and fan-favourite returning monsters, we got a look at a new Apex monster that’s chilling to say the least.

Shiny new trailer
The new trailer showcased some of the monsters we’ll use to make weapons and clothing in Monster Hunter Wilds.
A few standouts in the above trailer — we had a really good look at the three Apex predators revealed so far: Nu Udra, the fire octopus; Uth Duna, the water dragon; and Rey Dau, the lightning wyvern. Alongside the monsters we’ve seen already, we finally get a look at the Apex predator for the Iceshard cliffs, a massive skeletal dragon named Jin Dahaad.
Each of these monsters will serve as the resident big bad of one of the game’s main regions.
Also included in the trailer, we get a glimpse of what looks like a lightning-flavoured Rathalos, all but confirming we’ll see the return of monster variants in the upcoming game. Variants for those new to the series, are rejigged monsters with an additional elemental flare to their movesets and reworked resistances and status effects.
Post-launch support – everyone loves bubbles
The Capcom team hinted at some of the post-launch title updates coming to Monster Hunter Wilds. Monster Hunter titles have always had a strong lineup of post-launch additions, including new monsters, weapons, hunts, regions, and larger expansions.

There’s already confirmation of a free update to Wilds, with the return of monster Mizutsune. Mizutsune is a water-themed leviathan with bubble attacks that can slow hunters with Bubbleblight. Mizutsune first appeared in Monster Hunter Generations, and most recently in Monster Hunter Rise. In Rise, Mizutsune’s armour set was a favourite thanks to its flowing robes and contrasting white and pink colour scheme.
Following the Mizutsune update, further free title updates with additional monsters were teased. MMizutsune is coming in Spring (Autumn for us Aussies), and an additional monster and event quests are planned for northern summer.
