Into The Dead: Our Darkest Days, release date trailer

Get your spiked bats and Molotov cocktails ready — we’re going zombie hunting. The latest trailer for Into The Dead: Our Darkest Days just dropped at the Future Games Show Spring Showcase and it looks juicier than a week-old dead-head.

The game is coming to Steam Early Access on the 9th of April. Check out the new trailer below:

In development by New Zealand studio PikPokAgent Intercept, ShatterInto The Dead: Our Darkest Days presents a much more mature setting than we’re used to seeing from this team, focused on everyday survivors in a 1980s zombie apocalypse.

With the dollhouse-style side-scrolling and emphasis on character development, the game looks to be building an experience similar to This War of Mine. You’ll spend your time recruiting survivors, upgrading your base, crafting makeshift weapons and, of course, hiding from the wandering undead. I’m also getting notes of State of Decay with the character progression and emphasis on base-building in the zombie apocalypse.

Tread carefully!

One thing is for sure: the 80s vibes are strong. With the roadside diner and slow-rock in the trailer, it feels like a game leaning heavily into nostalgia — which is a very good thing in my book.

Within dev diaries on their YouTube page, the team have highlighted how the survivors that you’ll play as are ordinary humans, doing their best to survive the zombie apocalypse in a fictional 1980s America. They also explain that they’re trying to build a sense of pathos and dark sympathy for the zombies — because internal conflict is exactly what you need when you’ve got 100kg of muscle and teeth running down a corridor at you!
