Event Guide | The Game Expo 2024: What You Need To Know

The Game Expo has returned for its second year and it’s shaping up to be bigger and better! Hosted by Melbourne Exhibition Centre, the event will run across the weekend of March 23 – 24 and will be jam-packed with gaming goodies for all ages.

What’s there to see at The Game Expo?

Good thing you asked! Because there is a lot to see this year. Let’s take a closer look!

TGX is bringing back the Indie Video Game Zone and it is filled with showcases and demos of games in development. If that doesn’t sound amazing enough, did you know they are all Australian developers? This is an area worth checking out.

Need a break to unwind? The Freeplay Zone is for you. There’s a variety of activities on offer, including VR stations, where you can try your hand at games like Beat Saber. Gamers can also get nostalgic in the Retro Zone, or rock out to Rockband.

If you are all about winning, the High Score Arcade, presented by The Big Lan, will be the place to show off your skills and reach that leaderboard to win some amazing prizes. Games featured include Trackmania, Mario Kart, Tetris, Super Smash Bros and more!

Tabletop Games Galore

The Game Expo is not just for video games, there will be plenty of tabletop games to try out too. You will have the opportunity to play some favourites or learn how to play something new at the Tabletop Gaming Zone. Thanks to Good Games, there will be a library of board games and card games to demo and purchase.

Have you always wanted to give RPG Tabletop a go? Masters of Alchemy will be running sample sessions of RPG adventures such as D&D for newcomers. There will also be a Learn to Play for Magic: The Gathering and Flesh and Blood along with tournaments if you want to try your luck!

Can I Cosplay at The Game Expo? YES!

The Cosplay Zone will be your hub for anything and everything cosplay. Whether you are new to cosplay or experienced looking to further your knowledge there will be merchants on hand to help you! Pop in and ask a question about that prop you may be stuck on, or attend a workshop run by veteran cosplayers to develop your skills. 

If you are attending in costume or just appreciate the art why not check out the Cosplay Parade where you can show off your costume or be inspired by other incredible cosplayers. If you are sporting a costume that’s sure to turn heads you can enter yourself into the TGX Cosplay Cup held on Sunday to win prizes!

Is there an ‘Artist Alley’ at TGX?

Creativity and talent is bountiful in the Artist Zone, wander through the stalls and meet artist showcasing and selling their craft. You can find anything from mesmerizing digital art to beautifully hand crafted items, there will be something for everything here.

Tournaments and Esports

Feel like competing? You’re in luck, with tournaments running across the whole weekend! There’s also plenty of prizes up for grabs. Gaming tournaments include: Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Fortnite, Just Dance, Counter-Strike 2 and more.

Can I still get tickets to The Game Expo?

You certainly can, despite Saturday passes officially being sold out there are tickets still available for Weekend Passes or Sunday passes.

It’s going to be an awesome weekend at The Game Expo, remember if you do attend, wear comfortable shoes, hydrate and most importantly have fun!
